  1. Noticed WAVY-TV's YouTube page has its own archive section (most of the footage so far has been raw Chopper 10 shots from the first few years that was used); but I did see a couple of specials they did also included.

1992 WAVY Special (Under the Gun: Violence in Hampton Roads)

1994 WAVY Special (Stopping the Violence)

  2. Another Hampton Roads reporter leaving the market, as WTKR's Mike Mather departs after his wife took a job at the University of Virginia

  3. Some WTKR promos from a Christmas Eve 1991 syndicated movie airing

1991 WTKR Project A+ PSA (when I started my current channel last year; there was a Project A+ spot with then-anchor Jane Gardner. This time, Ed Hughes got in on the act)

1991 WTKR Food for Families Promo (Jane Gardner)

1991 WTKR Insights on Alcoholism Promo (with a WTKR logo that was a transitional version from the 1986 logo to the one used when WTKR switched to the Eyewitness News branding)

  4. Musical chairs in the anchor positions at WVEC starting on September 28. VARTV is reporting that Lucy Bustamante replaces Vanessa Coria (who was stepping aside from the anchor desk to do evening reports) on Daybreak and the noon edition of 13 News Now; Regina Mobley and Janet Roach will anchor at 4:00; Mobley will still anchor with David Alan at 5:00, 6:00 and 11:00 while Alan anchors the 5:30 newscast with Roach.

And now it looks like Vanessa Coria is on her way out in about two weeks from now per VARTV

  5. Former WPMI morning meteorologist Deitra Tate has been named as the Weekend AM meteorologist at WAVY.

    http://collectivetalent.com/news/story/110

Seems pretty unusual for a station to have 5 meteorologists on staff (Tate; Don Slater; Jeremy Wheeler; Tiffany Savona and Ashley Baylor). Rather curious to see how the assignment order shakes out.

Well, now we know why Deitra Tate was hired. Tiffany Savona's on her way to Louisville, KY and today is her last day

  7.

Late rebroadcast of WAVY 11pm Saturday night news from October 1987:

Includes a version of the "You're Covered" promo and the station signoff at the conclusion of the rebroadcast. Also, what was up with the abundance of fuel company ads in the late 80s?

Looks like there are a couple other 1980s WAVY videos on that channel (literally just ran across that channel about 5 minutes ago)

1986 WAVY Promo (Don Slater; who it looks like had not too long ditched the mustache he had early on):

1986-ish WAVY Daily News Promo (Weekend Team):

Also noticed in the video you linked to that about 30 minutes in; someone accidentally slapped a Proud N peacock just before the sign-off.

I'm sure if you grew up in the Buffalo, NY area; you properly remember Van Miller. The legendary voice of the Buffalo Bills and longtime Sports Director at CBS station WIVB

died yesterday evening. Van was the play-by-play voice of the Bills for 37 years and worked at WIVB (then WBEN) for 43 remarkable years before retiring in 1998.

Van survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Gloria, daughter Cathy, and son Van Jr. and three grandchildren. TVNewsTalk would like to take this time to offer our sincere

condolences and prayers to Van Miller's family and to our friends and colleagues at WIVB News 4. Van Miller was 87.

Van, you're a legend in our hearts and you're a hall of famer in our book. Rest in Peace and Godspeed.

    Van Miller

Obviously, I'm far more familiar with his Buffalo Bills work from NFL Films footage from the early 1990s; and I concur.

WIVB's Jacquie Walker had a touching comment about when she and a few others from the station made their last visit.

News 4 anchor Jacquie Walker recalls, “He was not able to speak during the visit. You could tell that he really wanted to, but as we were leaving, we were at the door, he raised his hand. We all turned around and looked at him, and Van said one word: And that world was ‘Fandaemonium. That’s the last word I heard Van say, and I think it means he was really thinking of the fans.”

Someone ID'd it to the NMSA as Finish Line by Network Music. WTKR used it on promos in 1991...

Added the info to that video. Thanks.

NewsActive3's been on a tear with rare newscast uploads of late; including...

The first newscast of the ill-fated Harry Reasoner/Barbara Walters team on the ABC Evening News (10-4-76):

The first edition of ABC World News Tonight (7-10-78):

July 31, 1968 CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite (from Miami; no doubt in preparation for the Republican National Convention the following week):

And from the local side, the December 20, 1981 edition of WPVI's Action News at 11:00:

  10. Looking for another source, but VARTV's Twitter account reports that WTKR will be producing weeknight newscasts on WGNT (which they did 20 years ago with little success and currently do on weekends); thus competing with WAVY News 10 at 10 on FOX 43.
