  1. Looks like NECN has switched to Look S graphics for their weather, judging by their graphic card on top...

    unknown.png

Btw their bug still clashes with WBTS L3s during simulcasts... However it feels like they're not making any adjustments any time soon, at least resize the bug...😐

I think KNSD is close to debuting the new graphics. Now that they're weather anchors are back in studio, they started airing a new weather spot promoting weather from NBC and Univision and the peacock background from the new opens is there. Sorry I don't have a pic or video.

Yeah I saw this promo popping up on KNSD featuring Look S backdrops.

  3. WTVJ just launched Look S along with a new set... Bad news: It's time to say goodbye to the long lived WTVJ custom theme; Good news: They're using the KNBC's updated version of LA Groove

    unknown.png

The new set looks kinda sexy~

I made a quick capture of the first 5 minutes if y'all are interested. Again I'm sure someone will post a better montage on YouTube so I'm not gonna upload it to YT.

*sighs* I knew it. WTVJ and I assume WSCV will be the last NBC and Telemundo O&O station to receive the new graphics.

WVIT recently switched to a temporary studio too (I think last week...), so they're definitely one of the latest to switch to Look S. For WRC, their set has been in use through Look F and Look N, and the old MTP set opposite to their set is no longer in use (maybe scrapped?) as the network moves to the new bureau so I think a new set is due soon... Maybe built in the old MTP studio...

The Olympic opening ceremony is coming this week so I'm expecting more stations to switch this week. Not sure if there's an internal deadline tho...

  5. No new music, intro is a bit shorter with only one "wipe", they're still using the four-note sting. Oh and they still have the "NBC 4 New York News at 4" wordings in their titles... even though they brand themselves as "News 4 New York"... thought they'd try to change their title wordings abit but oh well...

A quick snippet of the first 5 minutes if you're interested, I don't plan to upload to YouTube, somebody probably will anyways... The stings and wipes look great but sounded weird with the old cuts... Especially the intro.

  6. While all other Look S stations align their logos and wordings in the intros to the left, KNTV decided to go rogue and make the logos and title wordings go all over the place...😑 Oh and don't get me started on the messed up Peacock colors...

    unknown.png

On the music side, they retained most of their LA Groove cuts from Look N (such as the "coming up" vamps, the closing theme). The only exception I observed is the intro.

  7. Oh damm! WNBC's new 7PM newscast promo actually featured Look S graphics... this promo has been around for at least 2 weeks before WMAQ's launch. Never noticed that until now... WNBC still has Look N as I type this.

Btw the promo has LA Groove themes in it. So I'm 99% sure LA Groove will stay when Look S launches across other stations. Heck IMO LA Groove has gradually become the "signature tone" of some O&O stations given how long they've been in use. The first thing that pop up in my head when I hear LA Groove is NYC skyline...

WNBC last night - which was primary day in NYC, used a mix of looks.  Election coverage included many elements of Look S, while maintaining  Look N for regular stories.  What I noticed, now that we saw the Chicago roll out, is the promo for the new 7 pm news program includes a lot of Look S elements.  I'm not sure why Valerie Staub did not decide to completely roll out Look S with the election coverage -  it would have been perfect timing.

Sorry but those were not Look S elements - The lower thirds are Look N-era election styled graphics that has been in use in 2018 and 2020 across all O&Os.

Here's WRC using it as an example back in January.

  9. Anyone have a clue on which studio in 30 Rock is this set located in? My wild guess is this is one of the insert studio somewhere inside Newsroom 7E , where they do the morning Live Updates throughout the Today show in this set.

Oh and don't be confused that this is WRC from the "NEWS 4" writings, it's WNBC.

  10.

If anyone's awake, it seems they have just silently soft launched their new graphics during the overnight news update. "MSNBC NOW" is now rebranded as "MSNBC Reports", and their logo now adopts the font on their website. Gah I hate cable news channels attempt to look "young". This looks like some something NBCLX would pull off~🙁

  11. Just randomly switched over to KECI and KTVM and oh wow! It seems some days ago the NBC Montana stations have finally switched to the Sinclair Mandate Graphics.

Let's take a moment of silence for Look F please🙁~ I surely have enjoyed the Look F graphics with the Sinclair Glass music. To be honest, I think they both go very well, especially for the intro part. I thought Sinclair would give an exception to NBC Montana for using their mandate graphics given how well Look F goes... but oh well, it seems Look F has dated enough to be phased out. 😪

The NBC Montana stations have a new logo now - it seems the individual station branding is now named "NBC 13"/"NBC 6"? The NBC Montana stations only states their individual station branding (e.g KECI-13, KTVM-6 in the Look F period) on their legal ID and DOGs, other times they are referred to "NBC Montana".

Here are a few screenshots from tonight's News at 10, nothing too interesting, typical Sinclair stuff... (I tuned in late and missed the intro)

  12. Something interesting I noticed on the 11AM news today... WMAQ played an excerpt of the Today show today, and the Today Show ticker text and time "pops" up. It "deactivates" seamlessly when they cut back to the anchor. (Pay attention to the ticker part in the video below...)

This ticker is definitely not previously recorded - as implied by the time and the ticker text layer is above the Look N ticker graphic. I think it's generated automatically by their studio systems...

The question is how does stations like WMAQ (and possibly other O&O stations?) handle the Today ticker text? I know some stations generate the text manually by the studio director. In this video it seems it's automatically handled by their control room systems... Do they have some particular software to detect something like the "color" in a particular screen region, hence when detected it activates the ticker text? It's just something I've been curious all day long... Maybe someone here can have better assumptions.😳
