KY3 the only Gray station I have ever heard use this package which is the same one Morris Media’s WTVQ ABC 36 in Lexington used before I moved from Lawrenceburg, KY to Branson, MO and still uses today under ABC 36 News Now.
Now that Scripps is buying WTVQ from Morris Media, which will give it a duopoly of current NBC followed by ABC coming if the FCC approves the transaction, I imagine WTVQ will change to a new graphics and music package to conform with other Scripps stations. Only time will tell, but it seems as Scripps stations are becoming standardized in their packages.
One thing I will like, if KY3 does go GrayONE, is the expansion from 7 days to 10 days on the extended weather forecasts if they also make that change. It seems most stations which have converted to GrayONE, that didn’t have 10 day forecasts prior to conversion, have adopted 10 day forecasts either at conversion or shortly thereafter such as WKYT and WYMT did while ones like WBKO, WSMV, and WFIE, which are now GrayONE, still haven’t but I imagine probably will at some point.
We will see what happens, but I agree that KY3’s current package does make them unique which I do like that. I like that they seem different, and it seems as their anchors, reporters, weather people, and sports people all put more of a personal touch on everything they do to where the station has quite a local hometown feel to it with that “I care” aspect really showing. I can tell other stations care as well, but KY3 just seems to put that extra bit of touch on it.
