There are still promos for the StormTrackers on KIMA Action News...the aforementioned logo on the lower right...the promos that pat themselves on the back for outstanding reporting...etc etc. Yet we have a different news branding at 5, 6, and 11. Even the Facebook page still identifies as KEPR Action News. A complete identity crisis at this point. -
He needs no explanation. TBS was America's #1 cable network because of Mr. Turner. TNT was home to thousands of classic movies and WCW, because of Mr. Turner. Larry King became a nightly staple in millions of homes...because of Turner. Not to mention CNN Headline News, Cartoon Network, Turner Classic Movies, and more. All of these networks were staples of American life in one demographic or another. Dexter's Laboratory premiered on Cartoon Network to critical acclaim, not to mention the late Christine Cavanaugh was perfect for voicing Dexter. Toonami, Ed, Edd and Eddy, PowerPuff Girls, Adventure Time ALL came around because Ted decided to launch this network. He leaves behind a legacy around the world. He will be remembered for generations to come. RIP and welcome to Heaven, Ted.

New branding for local news on KIMA/KEPR in central Washington as of today. TRI-YAK News. Call signs going away from their branding next, perhaps? "Tri-Yak CBS"? The sports cutaways continue with Ryan Rogers at 19 and Austin Peppers at 29. Imagine if they added KLEW to the branding. "Tri-Yak-Lew". Try me, yak! -

Rincon is selling. Verrrryyyy interesting. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2026/4/12/rincon-is-selling-off-their-stations I have noticed that KIMA's Austin Peppers is still at the station doing sports in a cutaway with Ryan Rogers (at the KEPR studio). But no JKOC anymore. He's still listed on the KIMA website, however. Would be interesting to see KIMA end up LMAed with Cowles or Morgan Murphy...but I wonder if Gray or Nexstar will try to buy them up (plus KEPR/KLEW)? -

I don't recall him saying anything on Monday night (the 30th). Just that we'll see you tomorrow, "join us for your local KIMA Action News at 11", etc. This also affects the relatively new sports director, Austin Peppers, who took over Alan Sillence when he retired last January after a 31 year run at the station. He's young and hopefully will end up somewhere too. -

UPDATE: Looks like lights out for Yakima's first television station. RIP KIMA, 1953-2026 https://www.yakimaherald.com/news/local/business/kima-newscasts-apparently-moved-from-yakima-to-tri-cities-amid-ownership-changes/article_9ee73618-04de-4129-a252-68e3be4b480a.html?utm_campaign=blox&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social A Facebook comment on the YH-R from Steve Rocha (Morning guy on 100.9 Cherry FM) says John Kennedy O'Connor was seen at a brewery yesterday, close to news time. Casually dressed. I pray he ends up either in Pasco (with Scott) or in another amazing location. JKOC could be in Boise, Birmingham, or Binghamton and I'd still watch him. He was the best thing to happen to KIMA's news department in years. -

In Yakima...Fox 41 is now Fox 29.3 (well, I believe it's still called "Fox 41"). KCYU dropped Fox this morning after over 35 years. First as K53CY, then K68EB, then KCYU. Channel 41 is now Roar. Meanwhile, Scott Stovall was on the newscast last night at 5 and 6. I hope the absence of John Kennedy O'Connor is temporary...but I have been predicting the demise of the KIMA television studios for years now. So who knows? -

Noticed this a few nights ago. I guess KFFX wasn't satisfied with KNDU's partnership anymore (or Rincon wasn't). Meanwhile, this is happening 1,400 miles away. Live newscasts have ended at KGAN Cedar Rapids. The March 23rd newscast was all pre-recorded except for weather...just reports from MMJs and prerecorded anchor blurbs from other parts of the state. Another news department falls. How long before Sinclair (or someone else) experiments with AI anchors, AI weather, AI sports? -
All I have this time around is a brief KNDU clip from November 1997. It's the open to the 11PM newscast with Scott Stovall (still at KEPR).
-
A few new clips this morning: KVEW Northwest Nightcast open, 1/21/97 (with the WRONG intro!) KIVI news opens from May 1999 KTTV Fox 11 News at 10 A-block, Veterans Day 2004.

The KOMO newscast from 2005 is definitely first-rate. It was the 11am and I was at school at the time (and mom would have been over on KIRO watching Y&R) but I remember Todd Johnson, Connie Thompson, and Rachelle Murcia. Greatest anchor duo in Seattle history (Kathi & Dan), the late Steve Pool on WX, first-rate reporters. Channel 4 was incredible in those days. They have done some great work under Sinclair (Seattle is Dying, for example), but of course, the corporate mandates are killing the station in other ways. And now, back to Boise for these KTVB clips, both from 1988. Bob Holland and A.K. Lienhart is on the second clip. A.K. did TV news in Boise for many, many years.

Re Kev's suspension... This is why I am VERY cautious on what gets uploaded to the AVTB YT after losing thousands of videos on my personal accounts in March 2021. Most entire sitcoms w/ commercials are off the table entirely, unless there is nowhere else to put them (and I'd rather they go on the Archive instead). Soaps too, most go to Archive except for the Sony/Bell soaps, which sit in my personal hard drive for anyone to enjoy...they can't be enjoyed online for a general audience. With all the Roku channels, why hasn't Sony launched Classic Y&R, Classic Days of Our Lives, Classic B&B, Classic Wheel, and Classic Jeopardy! channels yet for streaming? I mean...you can watch Family Feud all day long, same w/ Supermarket Sweep. Maybe instead of hiding them from the general public and taking down any uploads from those who are trying to preserve these episodes for nostalgic purposes, launch a bunch of streaming channels or even work with a subscription service (like Paramount+) to release classic soaps to long-time fans. My mother would LOVE classic Y&R episodes available at any time. P&G has left ATWT/GL alone, for the most part, on the other hand.

A couple of new KGW clips in this batch. With teaching, weekend DoorDashing and also helping out with a friend's massive eBay storefront (he's paying me a nice cut of the profit and has a few other guys working for him on the side too...), time for VHS digitizing is pretty limited nowadays.

Kicking off the new year with an unearthed KIMA NewsBeat! It's February 24th, 1988, with Julia Clark and someone doing sports that I don't recognize. KREM 2 News clips from May 1985, a Mt. St. Helens retrospective And a CBS Evening News clip from 5/18/85 with Bob Schieffer, also on St. Helens

Two Boise recordings in this holiday-themed batch.

Here's another dump, right before the turkey: KNDO 11/19/93, first 11 minutes of the Late Edition. Mark Johnson at the anchor desk. A-block of the CBS Sunday Night News, 3/16/86, Charles Osgood, via KXGN! There's an MTN News open (from KTVQ Billings) at the end of this KXGN commercial compilation from 7/10/1984. I have a Betamax that actually has the KX-5 MTN News on it. (!!!) Coming soon. Bill Kurtis on the CBS Evening News 6/10/84 Brian Wood in for the (now-late) Aaron Brown on KIRO's Eyewitness News at 11. April 9th, 1990 from a 1:30am rebroadcast on 4/10

More unbelievable finds from Glendive's own KXGN!!! It deserves its own post.

KTVB Weekend Report clip from May 1985!

So, I've been collecting VHS and Betas for over a decade. I always try to snag small-market eBay lots whenever they still exist...and a recent Beta lot was no exception. For OVER A DECADE I have been looking to break the dry spell and digitize some television from this market. A life-long dream has come true, and now TAKE A LOOK AT THIS 1986 NEWS PROMO FOR KXGN GLENDIVE!!!!!! (At 5:58) And to sweeten the deal, here's half of the KUMV Williston Night Report from 9/26/1986. Most of the newscast originates from KFYR Bismarck, and KUMV cuts in during the second half of the newscast, but the recording cuts off before the end... They had a translator in Glendive for decades I have another BIG KXGN surprise coming, stay tuned

Kathi and Dan were definitely the dream team in Seattle. I don't think any other anchor pairing at KOMO, or other stations, had as much chemistry as those two. It felt like they were best friends, and both gave back a lot to the Puget Sound. Just one clip in this batch, and it has some tracking issues. First four minutes of NewsWatch 6 Nightcast, KIVI Boise, February 10th, 1986

Tons of new Boise stuff here: KTVB 5/4/86, Dave Eckert KBCI 1/24/91 open KBCI 1/23/91 open KBCI 1/21/91 open (see a pattern? Taper left a few minutes of the news recording after Lonesome Dove each night.) KTVB 2/20/97 Night Report open with Gerry May and Carolyn Holly. KLAS 3/19/91
