Do it right, or don't do it at all.

They'll probably have to wrestle away the license from Fox but I'm sure that won't be a hindrance.

The current (or Current) RSN theme is a pretty good #2 option though.

I wonder if they will update some of the soft-elements on the set such as the AccuWeather logotype and some of the other LED ticker elements. Of course, the weather set always has the left-edge as a static-thermometer graphic, even when used for news, always found that odd.

That wall isn't a 16:9 aspect ratio so if they ditched the sidebar and filled the entire thing with whatever they're presenting, it would be a distorted picture. I guess their thinking behind putting what they did there is it gives the presenter a place to stand without blocking any information.

I also thought they'd update the backdrop behind the anchors. That still uses elements from the old look.

Overall though I love this look and WPVI's implementation of it.

I may be the exception who’s a meh on it, but hey, no one likes everything and different strokes for different folks. If that’s what works for the group and station, great, and more power to ‘em.

I would say reserve your judgement till it fully debuts. That was just the generic version (notice no talent was mentioned). I think regular opens will feature some more of the cool elements that we've from the other stations including the live time and weather and maybe some scenery or even headshots of the talent.

It'll probably have something tying it Amazon. Prime Sports? Amazon Sports? etc. They're not investing all that money to be a silent investor.

Prime Sports would be a nice throwback to the old PrimeTicket networks.

I guess based on the PageSix article Muppetman shared, we can get to enjoy the street studio while it lasts, which will be gone by the middle of next year. Per the article, they could probably have studios in the basement of the new complex next year. Hopefully, the NYC subway rumbling underneath them won't be too loud or disruptive to the new WABC studio and broadcast, haha. 😆

Back on the topic of the graphics now, does anyone have any insight on when KABC and WPVI will adopt the O&O group package? It seems like these are the only O&Os left to shift to the new generalized look. The weather graphics haven't changed yet either for them as of today.

PVI has the new weather graphics and are also using the new look in image and syndie programming promos. Really the only place they aren't using it yet are the newscasts. Maybe both stations are waiting for the May books?

  6. Another update, Telemundo 62's 11PM news has been shifted back a half hour to 11:30. It's pretty clear now 10 and 62 are sharing the space. Now what it is they're doing in 10's studio, that's still to be determined.

To me it looks like they have a new desk and that's it.

It's a lot more. Here are the two sets from the designer's website: https://jhdgroup.net/portfolio/nbc-10-news-studio-philadelphia/

Both sets have seen refreshes over the 6 years since they moved in the but the layout's the same.

Just based off all the evidence, I'm going to say WCAU is in WWSI's studio. I'll venture to say WWSI's news that runs concurrent with WCAU's is beyond pre-recorded.

They are on the same set - looks to me they are sharing the Telemundo62 studio for some reason.

Not sure how that's possible unless they're prerecording the Telemundo newscast.

  9. More pics. I now think it's WCAU that's in a temp location. There's three studios at the Comcast Technology Center so if one of the active studios needed to be taken out of commission they could broadcast out of the third.

It looks like they are broadcasting from a different  studio today. Are they doing some changes to their main studio?

(I apologize for the picture quality, but I can't get a screen grab. Maybe some can help out with that please? 🙏)20240226_160656.thumb.jpg.bc468501ee5d87a676809e120455edb7.jpg

That's what was the Telemundo 62 studio. I'm guessing WCAU is getting a new/refreshed set.

On the latest showing of StormTracker 6 today at 4p, the radar scan that is in Montgomery/ Bucks County was active, along with the new Lancaster County one. So it looks like they have 2 of their own now, while the other stations rely on NWS only?

WCAU uses the NWS sites plus WNBC's site in Edison which has pretty good reach into the region. It just misses southern Delaware but gets the rest of the region very well. Plus they still do have the Storm Ranger.

Pre pandemic they did have a building permit to put up a fixed site in Aston, PA (someone here actually found it) but I dunno what became of it. I'm guessing it was scrapped.
