  1. A big problem with the presentation at KTLA and KTTV, from my perspective, is that they overwork their people. Micah Ohlman and Cher Calvin are on air from 5-7:30, then from 10-11:30. Meanwhile at KABC, Marc Brown is on air for a total of an hour and a half, maybe two hours a day. As for the political ... take a look at the social media presence of some of KTLA and KTTV's on-air talent. It's amazing they're able to repress their feelings on air as much as they do! I do think some of the political leanings come from on high at Nexstar and Fox, although it is somewhat tempered given the left-leaning population. KCAL/KCBS seems a little right leaning as well, but I think that's largely from having an appropriately adversarial relationship with the powers that be, which are, obviously, left leaning almost everywhere in LA County.
  2. I don't think it's particularly new. They're just really ramping it up.
  3. Awesome! I'm going to give Channels a shot. Thanks!
  4. I'm looking for a little help. I recently bought an HD Home Run Tuner and have it connected to my Plex server. The issue is that some of the program information Plex provides (via Gracenote, I believe) is incorrect. I've read that it's possible to build your own programming guide using open-source apps and something like Schedules Direct, but I have no ideas beyond the basics. One complicating factor is that I'm using a Mac, and I'd like the solution to stay in this ecosystem. Any ideas? Thanks!
  5. Today is Ellen Leyva's last day at ABC 7. The station has been doing farewell messages as they go to break all day.
  6. I would love it if the sports package were made available separately. I'm not particularly interested in paying for cable news as it exists in any form today.
  7. Oof. I guess the lesson here is to start the process with "softer" offensive words. It's probably easier to explain how you accidentally posted the word "poop" rather than what they posted.
  8. No. It was a dig at "The Challenge." They'd need to come up with a better format if they want to make something work on a weekly basis.
  9. I think the main issue is cost. First, you have to subtract the amount you're getting for the infomercial. So this venture is already in the hole. Then you need to add talent costs; the KABC and KCBS shows have outside talent in addition to the sports anchor. Then you have to sell it to an advertiser or two. KCBS and KABC seem to have a couple of car dealers they can call on when they want to do additional programming. I haven't seen anything consistent on KNBC. So, it's a tough ask. Additional opinion that no one asked for: "The Challenge" is bad enough 17 weeks a year, expanding it would benefit nobody.
  10. It seems weird to start someone just back from illness on the 11. I think I saw her on at 4 and 5 on Thursday last week too.
  11. Google can help with one of these: https://www.nbclosangeles.com/on-air/investigative-reporter-joel-grover-leaving-nbcla-after-22-years/3576056/
  12. KTTV, KCBS/KCAL, KABC all went to normal late night programming early Friday. KNBC stayed on the air live, as far as I know. They've been mentioning how many consecutive hours they've been live, so I anticipate a marketing campaign around that soon.
  13. They've been doing it for years.
  14. I've been noticing a lot of small errors on KCAL/KCBS the past couple of weeks. Throws to nowhere, incorrect graphics, wrong tape, etc. Unusual for a major station that had been pretty good before that.
  15. His LinkedIn page has an end date of Nov 2024 at KTLA and a new listing as "self-employed" for Sep 2024-present.
