Oh it’s worse than that, it’s the curse of Jerry Dunphy. When he was fired in 1975 and went to KABC, channel 2 has failed to succeed in the ratings. Some of their experiments have been way worse like the 1986 Newswheel, John Lippmann as ND, and yes NewsCentral and now KCAL News. It amazes me how they still manage to be in operation despite years of mediocrity.

Sad news out of the Bay Area. Belva Davis, a pioneering broadcaster, passed away at 92. She was the first black female reporter on the west coast when she joined KPIX in the 60s, and was known for her career at KRON and KQED. No way…just watched her newscasts this weekend, didn’t seem like it. I guess the grass is greener.

Yep. He left KABC several years back, sounded like he wasn’t happy there, or getting a chance to anchor. Anchoring the 10pm newscast at KTTV is a big deal and Elex was well regarded in the market and popular with younger viewers. He was certainly right up there with John Beard.
