Action Newsroom 1283
Today, America's #2 network morning news show, ABC Good Morning America, will play musical chairs at its headquarters Times Square Studios on Times Square. That means the program will move from the upper level (with the big windows showing Times Square) to the lower lever (which was previously used for segments in the 8:00 hour such as interviews, cooking and entertainment) where a brand-spanking-new set, which will be used for the main segments for the 7:00 hour, will be found. The lower lever was recently shut down by ABC News as move to save money, and the 8:00 hour segments have since moved outside of TSS in front of crowds who love to be a part of the program. The new set will be revealed today (should've been yesterday, but they think it's better to show the set after Labor Day [The program was taped at ABC News Headquarters on 66th Street on Labor Day] but I don't). The show has given a small peek of the set on Instagram via a link from Twitter, which you can find here: http://instagr.am/p/MSgBA/ Let's hope this new set will be as great-looking and useful as the last one that was made, like, about a year (and a half, I guess) ago. Oh and by the way, this is my first ever major post of my membership on TVNewsTalk. Please talk about this topic and tell me what you think about the major changes on ABC GMA. Oh and please tell me what you think about my first post. -Thank You. sfomspphl 491
Saw the tease into break before leaving this a.m. But didn't they just redo the set earlier this year? So odd....guess they lease out upstairs now. New set is a Today clone. ElliotJones 52
ABC News doesn't own the studios there, rather, they lease the space from Time Square Studio. KRAP-TV 146
New set is a Today clone. Really? I've only seen a few pictures and some short video clips. But from what I've seen, it looks nothing like the Today show set. Now, the CBS Early Show set was/is a knock-off of Today... WXmanTim 88
ABC News doesn't own the studios there, rather, they lease the space from Time Square Studio. Times Square Studios is a Disney subsidiary...basically transfering money from one division to another. To me its kinda ridiculous to move the studio space downstairs, but I guess if they had to choose between having easier/more (first floor) or harder/less (second floor) audience participation, the choice is pretty easy. And even tho the space itself is more than a decade old (GMA moved there in at the beginning of the November 99 sweeps), it seems a waste to leave half the building unused by its original intent. That being said I've never particularly cared for TSS, as I much preferred the "home" look of the show prior to the mid/late-90s. A3N 1002
ABC has been on a set spending spree lately. The View got a new set on 9/6 by Clickspring, now GMA. Wonder if the new WABC set will also be a Clickspring set. WABCNewYork 0
Is it me or does it seem like ABC News is always changing their sets. They are never consistent. NBC has been using the same set for Today since 2006. On Good Morning America, they got a brand new set in 2005, then changed it around a lot in the Fall of 2007 which in my opinion was a downgrade. Then they just renovated the whole studio again about a year ago and now another change! The same for World News. That set got upgraded in 2006, completely changed in 2008, upgraded in 2009, and completely renovated about a year ago.
