Jess 1115
Or, "why nonstop is worth checking out". I hope some of 10's shows survive the reformatting because they're actually quite interesting. Out of the Vault is basically, "here's old footage we drudged up". Sometimes they'll run an interview-based show, but most of them are Glenn Schwartz hosting old 10 specials or news reports. Today's is one of the great ones - a series of reports on Atlantic City's impending casinos, which News 10 ran in 1978. Yes, I said News 10 - turns out they used that name for a few years under CBS! And since Larry Kane was commuting to New York City, your anchor is Ralph Penza(!). And there are a series of great reports from people like Terry Ruggles, Joel A. Spivak, Dennis Cunningham, and all of Southern California's Michael Tuck(!) with the greatest standup I've seen ever. It's a little hit or miss sometimes - often you'll get a "here's a channel 10 special on this exhibit the Franklin Institute ran in 1988" - but when it hits, it hits. 10's archives are quite spotty, they don't have everything - they ran a history of Glenn Schwartz special (not part of the Vault series) that had to rely on YouTube clips for some of the earlier NBC-era stuff. But it's worth seeking out, I think. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11602-out-of-the-vault/ Share on other sites
Action Newsroom 1281
ALTHOUGH this isn't OOTV, I miss The Rundown. It was a very entertaining half-hour and was hosted by Terry Ruggles. AriX 8
This stuff is pretty interesting... but I'm pretty sure they ripped that vault animation STRAIGHT from MacHeist. This is one rendering of MacHeist's vault: This is the OOTV vault: Note how it's the exact same thing. I couldn't find MacHeist's opening vault animation, but I remember it, and it looks exactly the same as this one. Or maybe they both bought them from a stock agency? I was pretty sure that MacHeist created it themselves at the time.
