A 44-year veteran in local news who spent the last 16 years in Augusta, GA at WRDW-TV; Tom Campbell lost his battle to cancer this morning. He was 68 years old.

Prior to joining WRDW, Tom had experience working as an anchor/reporter in several cities, including WTXL in Tallahassee, Fla., WCMH in Columbus, Ohio; KBMT in Beaumont, Texas; KSBY in San Luis Obispo, Calif.; KTRK in Houston, Texas; and WTVN in Columbus, Ohio.

A Delaware, Ohio native and graduate of Ohio Wesleyan and Ohio State Universities, he called Augusta, GA his home for many years, and fell in love with the town. When he was offered jobs in larger markets, he stayed at WRDW and dedicated himself to this community.

Local TV stations WJBF and WAGT have paid their respects to WRDW, and WRDW has dedicated a special section to Tom Campbell on their website. There are lots of comments on WRDW's Facebook pages as well.

Warmest wishes and deepest sympathies go to his family during this tragic time.

Also, as miraculous as it sounds, morning anchor Lynnsey Gardner reported that the station learned Tom's beloved cat he had for many years also died this morning. The cat went into a local animal hospital the same day Tom went to the hospital, and died of kidney failure this morning around the time Tom passed.
