Weeters 1916
NBC has announced that "30 Rock" will return next season for an "abbreviated season" before being canceled. "Parks and Recreation" and "Community" apparently will not have the chance to have a farewell season. http://www.slate.com...o_rumored_.html http://www.opposingviews.com/i/entertainment/nbc-makes-drastic-call-veteran-comedies-30-rock-community-and-parks-recreation EDIT: "Community" now has a abbreviated season order: http://m.deadline.com/2012/05/nbcs-community-renewed-with-13-episode-order/ Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11888-nbc-kills-off-30-rock-community-and-parks-and-recreation/ Share on other sites
NYNews 54
I never got the comedy behind 30 Rock, but Community and Parks and Recreation is just hilarious. They never got the viewership they deserved. Don't know if TBS might be interested after the shows end their run on NBC, because apparently, TBS brought the rights to ABC's Cougar Town, which is nowhere near as funny. A3N 1002
Can't remember where I read it, but NBC was/is considering ordering less episodes of some of its shows in order to accommodate new one's mid season. Sort of what TNT & TBS does. The programming moves made nowadays at NBC have a purpose (at least I believe they do) as opposed to when Jeff Zucker ran the company. Still can't get over how NBC let SouthLand get away and it landed at TNT and it is/was doing very well for them (the show is on hiatus until January). That show is very well written and has great production values (even after it left NBC and its budgets were cut), so nonetheless it will take a while for NBC to find its groove again but it will take time. There is light at the end of the tunnel, but that tunnel is long and tons of patience and money will be needed. AriX 8
What? Did you read the articles you linked to? None of them had any confirmed information about the fates of Community and P&R (until Community's renewal was confirmed, of course). I see no indication yet that P&R "will not have the chance to have a farewell season." The Office is likely to be renewed as well, and we have not heard from NBC about that one yet. And 30 Rock is not going to be "cancelled" or "killed off" after the next season. It is going to end. They aren't really the same thing, and the Fey and Baldwin have been clear for a while now that the show is coming to a close. NBC 5 Chicago 191
They have all been renewed... NYNews 54
I guess Fridays is NBC's go to day to kill off a series, they did it with Chuck, and now with the new fall schedule out, the same fate for Community. There really hasn't been comedies on Fridays that work since ABC's TGIF back in the day. With very low viewership on Fridays, it will be a perfect excuse to cancel Community's run after their 13 episode run. AndrewPollard_ 6
I don't understand. Why is calling a final season of a show a way of saying kill it off? NBC didn't "kill off"Chuck. It gave it a final season. Grimm is on Friday, and it wasn't canceled last season, so it doesn't mean it will be canceled. And if people forget that Community (and Whitney too) is on Friday and just watch it, they'll just have nothing to worry. NYNews 54
Theoretically and ideally, a show is suppose to end on it's own accord, with the writers/cast dictating when a show ends, not the network (ie: Friends and Seinfeld). An abbreviated season of 13 episode order instead of a full order of 22 episodes is effectively killing off the show. Having a prime time slot on Thursday this season, for Community to move to Fridays in the fall is a downgrade. Grimm surprisingly has done well on Fridays. There's some trend with networks putting sci-fi shows on Friday, starting with CBS when they originally put Ghost Whisperer on Friday, NBC and TheCW has followed suit.
