KUSA's new(?) open and new set

It looks like all that they redid was the floor. It's a lot shinier now and doesn't have those blue lines on it.

What a disappointment though. From what the talent said on air, they made it sound like they were at least doing something to it other than painting the floor. And now I wonder if those sketches that TexasTVNews posted were just the sketches from 2004 when they commissioned the set.

Edit: It looks like they've maybe changed the backdrop behind the RP screen on the left so that the mountains printed on it are all blue instead of in color.

When did they last use 'where news comes first' as a slogan? That's your clue to those sketches.

Well if you look at the website where it came from:

Most of the designs look to be a few years old now. On that site are sketches for Hannity & Colmes, which is obviously off the air now, and Extra, which isn't even studio-based anymore. The top sketch for KUSA looks very much like the actual 2004 set that was built, while the bottom one looks like it may have been presented as an alternative if they wanted to keep the wood look of the 1997 set.

Here's video if anyone's interested:

I really don't know why they keep saying "Have you noticed anything different about us tonight?" because the reality is that the studio looks almost exactly the same, and very few viewers will notice. It looks like they maybe improved the lighting and cleaned the set, but it's still the same set.

They also are using the daytime duratrans for the evening newscasts, though I presume that's just because they used the nighttime duratrans in the temporary set and that they haven't reinstalled them into the main studio yet.

What's with all the hating on the KUSA set. Sure the desk is worn but the skyline shots are great, look even better on the close ups. And the two story setup still has a commanding feel.

I call it a classic. Feels like they're going the KARE route, where the basic set structure remains pretty unchanged through refreshes.
