Weeters 1969 Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 It seems something is up at WTMJ. Morning anchor Vince Vitrano tweeted a photo this morning of the view from the anchor desk. Missing from the picture? The set for their morning infotainment program "The Morning Blend". Before. After. Either they've decided to use Studio D for more than a few phone banks every year and moved the show there, or they've moved the set there temporarily and will be moving the news there too so work can be done in Studio A. Since that picture is less than 24 hours old and there's only a few days of Olympics left, I highly doubt they're building Blend a new set in Studio A.
trev57 46 Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Interesting. I would've thought WITI would be next in line for a new set in Milwaukee after WDJT and WISN got theirs last year...not that I would complain if they did get a new set. I guess we should know on the 13th when "The Morning Blend" returns.
trev57 46 Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 And it's official, Live at Daybreak is on a temporary set this morning. Pics to come.
milklikesubstance 11 Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Vince said at the end of Live at Daybreak that the new set should be ready in November.
trev57 46 Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Vince said at the end of Live at Daybreak that the new set should be ready in November. That he did, but he corrected himself on Facebook saying "(The new set should be ready) I guess in about a month. I thought November. I have since been corrected." (Susan Kim says five weeks) And as promised, here are some pictures courtesy of anchor Susan Kim. http://www.facebook....03312136&type=3 EDIT: I have since learned that the new set is being designed and built by Devlin Design Group.
Weeters 1969 Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 They're using the phone bank "set". Couldn't they have just pulled the recently-replaced daytime duratran out of storage?
trev57 46 Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Studio A has been gutted and construction is now underway http://instagram.com/p/OTryeIgLBu/
trev57 46 Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Well week one is in the books. Here's a quick timelapse of the progress made in week one. (mostly deconstruction) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fFDQbpVVRI&feature=plcp
trev57 46 Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 For anyone interested in following the development of the set, DDG will begin "blogging about it daily starting August 27th", according to their twitter page. Devlin's Twitter Devlin's Blog
trev57 46 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 So far, this is all we can get. A picture from a live feed inside the studio. Nothing from Devlin yet. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/s720x720/558434_4487989640178_487312884_n.jpg
Weeters 1969 Posted August 29, 2012 Author Posted August 29, 2012 If that picture is any indication, this set will rival WITI's in terms of size. It seems they'll be using a lot more of the studio than they were. That said, I don't like all the wood. Wood tones just don't "work" with WTMJ's image. This is one of the few instances where I'd want to see a grey, white, and chrome Clickspring set.

This is one of the few instances where I'd want to see a grey, white, and chrome Clickspring set. I agree, but it seems like everyone is really impressed with what Devlin came up with for this set. It'll be interesting to see the final product.
trev57 46 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 And here's the latest look inside the studio, taken from my phone. (Sorry for the quality) The only major aspects I can make out are the color changing panels (blue lights) and the monitor wall on the right, which may or may not be the main anchor area. http://www.flickr.co...tream/lightbox/ Supposedly installation is going to be wrapped up Thursday, with the lighting phase starting Friday. Hopefully they'll show us a live view of the finished product sometime tomorrow.

trev57 46 Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Lights from Brightline are going in today (including a BL. 16 LED fixture, whatever that is) and shot blocking begins tomorrow.

trev57 46 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I really hope they don't plan on keeping that white wall. :puke:
Devlin Design Group 1 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Hi all, In regards to blogging about the WTMJ installation...We honored WTMJ’s wishes that we not release any photos of the set until they go on- air. ~Julie Blair, Project Manager at DDG
trev57 46 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Tom Murray and Shelley Walcott just said they hope to be on the set "one week from today". They also showed a live shot of the 96% finished set. Didn't get a pic though
abric 181 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 I'm on the fence about it. Have to wait until it debuts.

trev57 46 Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Is it just me or does the anchor desk seem really far away from the backdrop?
Action Newsroom 1301 Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Is it just me or does the anchor desk seem really far away from the backdrop? If I see it, well you're not alone.
