mightynine 290
After spending years in the same set (just constantly refreshed), WWL-TV / New Orleans is debuting a new set today (10/25) at 5pm. Here's a sneak peek. EDIT: 360 of the set http://www.wwltv.com/home/Tour-the-new-set-175720881.html From their FB: Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/12221-heres-a-surprise-wwl-tv-gets-new-set/ Share on other sites
T.L. Hughes 890
Who designed this new set, and how long was the old one used? Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/12221-heres-a-surprise-wwl-tv-gets-new-set/#findComment-76599 Share on other sites
trev57 46
It's FX Group. It looks like they have a cheaper version of the desk at WCCO and WBNS. MidwestTV 1232
FX Group has REALLY stepped up the quality of their sets compared to the disaster that's been the past couple of years! mightynine 290
Who designed this new set, and how long was the old one used? Their main set has been in use for over 20(!) years, with constant refreshes. 80s: early 90s: late 90s / early 00s: through 2008: mostly current (a new city skyline backdrop and TVs were added eventually): Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/12221-heres-a-surprise-wwl-tv-gets-new-set/#findComment-76604 Share on other sites
TennTV1983 804
A very nice change from what they had. I'm just hoping HD was included in those plans (not just sticking with 16x9 SD). Interesting that they put in a news ticker as part of the set. Haven't seen that done in a while. WXmanTim 88
Did they ever get the new building Belo was supposed to be constructing, or are they still in the rundown Rampart studios on the edge of the French Quarter? susquvalleywgal 517
Nice slideshow of the new set. PelicanGuy 117
Interesting that they put in a news ticker as part of the set. Haven't seen that done in a while. The ticker is only used during the morning newscasts and the weather and sports segment of the other newscasts. EDIT: I see that big ass ticker as part of the set. mark 55
Looking at the graphics on the monitors, they'll be keeping their RenderOn graphics... For now (Hint, hint) Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/12221-heres-a-surprise-wwl-tv-gets-new-set/#findComment-76610 Share on other sites
MidwestTV 1232
How big is their studio exactly, because they either have a lot crammed into a tiny little space, or just a big studio period because it looks like they have two different "main" sets. I don't really like that huge pod though next to the weather center pod with the quad-monitor array behind it. It seems too bright and bland to me and like it could've been weather center space. PelicanGuy 117
It's a large two-story building - formerly a 7-Up bottling company. For much of the station's history, all newscasts and variety shows were done upstairs while the offices and reporter/anchor desks and weather office were downstairs. bixpchiphead 105
It's a large two-story building - formerly a 7-Up bottling company. For much of the station's history, all newscasts and variety shows were done upstairs while the offices and reporter/anchor desks and weather office were downstairs. And for the last few years, the main news studio with all the refreshes that mightynine posted was upstairs, while the honking big studio on ground level (with the kitchen and the performance area) was for the morning news. I am guessing that the new set is in the former morning studio (goodbye kitchen). That'd explain why there was no news of channel 4 broadcasting from temporary surroundings. They were in the old studio til the very end. (Which is how tv stations used to do it, Get Off My Lawn ) Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/12221-heres-a-surprise-wwl-tv-gets-new-set/#findComment-76615 Share on other sites

TennTV1983 804
So, judging by those two panoramic pictures and the 360 view on the website, the new set takes up the entirety of the studio space downstairs with TWO anchor desks instead of one. Saying that I am impressed by this is a huge understatement.
