PhillyWatch 239
Throughout this week I've been checking into 10.2 at 7 but no newscast. Anybody have any info? Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/12316-wcau-7pm-newscast-axed/ Share on other sites
anthonyz 26
Because of Cozi TV rolling in next week, 7pm newscasts will be coming to an end. This is the last week WNBC will be having its 7pm newscast on 4.2. PhillyWatch 239
I'm hoping for a return. I always admired CN8 for their 1 & 7pm newscasts. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/12316-wcau-7pm-newscast-axed/#findComment-77741 Share on other sites
Jess 1115
Checking from 1/2 on, the schedule is all networked - no local programming opts and the 7pm hour is the LX.TV Talk Stoop and 1st Look stuff - which is looking increasingly out of place on this schedule. Prime time lineups are "block parties". If the 7pm is indeed gone, let's be honest - it's not a bad thing. The 7pm was never promoted, probably barely watched, and recycled content from the earlier newscasts. However, you still needed a full crew in, so you're essentially wasting resources. It was a neat idea, yes, but at the end of the day you get back the resources you were spending on this and you can put it into other areas of the newscast. (Maybe instead of having 5 or 6 live reports, maybe 7 or 8!) I'm sure the same reasoning is why 10 ultimately didn't renew its contract with 17. And it's a decision that's worked out for both stations - 10 was able to put that into reporting, 17 got a newscast that is from all accounts incredibly competitive with 29.
