Future of TV

Do you think that our model of local TV stations will have a place in the least near future, perhaps even if it's cable only? Is it possible to "transmit" a signal over the internet? These are just questions.

I think that as the market moves away from linear TV, the major networks will switch to a model that will lead them to part ways with local stations, leaving them to focus solely on their news departments (if they have any; the typical CW affiliate will likely just completely fade away). I also don't think that what's left of first-run syndication (mostly talk and court shows) is going to be around someday either, especially not the trashy daytime TV that is aimed mostly at a captive audience of unemployed people without cable.

If linear TV does stick around, you'll probably be able to swap your antenna for a set-top box seamlessly.

Ah. I don't know about anybody else but I think I'm really going to miss linear TV. There's just something so special and magical about TV being linear. Thank goodness for platforms such as Livestream.

Ah, thanks. I'll agree with Market146 about linear TV, since I usually watch TV live. Even then, I use the DVR function a lot.
