Jess 1115
http://www.netnewscheck.com/article/25783/schurz-partners-with-ib-townnews Unfortunately, don't expect them to visually re-invent the wheel... yet Ugh. Really, when is someone going to realize, "hey, we can build and maintain a much nicer website in-house for a hell of a lot cheaper than if we hire one of these guys"? Because they totally can. Seriously, just get a WordPress install, a couple of plugins, and a decent theme. Also... Users, however, are unlikely to notice the shift, as Schurz selected near-identical templates to which to migrate the sites and the move won’t bring with it a switch to responsive design. Not yet, at least. “Quite frankly, we are going to wait for the business model to catch up,” Oslund said. “The ad delivery model has not caught up with the user interface side of the house.” He anticipates that Schurz may adopt responsive design for its sites next year. Bzzt. Wrong answer. Mobile is the future. Waiting until next year is a mistake. Responsive or adaptive designs should have been the first, second, and third priority. Viper550 291
Meanwhile, one Schurz station is not switching to IB; it switched to Worldnow instead because of a certain SSA... I'm sure you can figure out which one, cause it's a station we've discussed here numerous times before... Now, I actually like this better in a way than the design the other MG sites got. Maybe DIY would work for a station in Bismarck, ND, or Butte-Bozeman, MT -- but Good Luck With That if you're in a major market. Are you aware of what happened to most of the Boston station websites last week...? skeptic 0
This is why you then partner with a service like Cloudflare. ... and who is "you"...? At what point does a station GM (or station group owner) let their journalists do journalism, and their engineers worry about keeping the signal on-air, rather than all of them cutting into their day jobs to try to make the website work? How many loose pieces and vendors does a station buckle on before they realize they're doing it badly? Don't take my word for it: http://www.broadcastingcable.com/blog/Station_to_Station/33807-Boston_Station_Sites_Struggle_With_Bombing_Coverage.php Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/12609-schurz-going-to-internet-broadcasting/#findComment-81431 Share on other sites
Viper550 291
Well, it seems as if they're finally up, and a lot different than what their president suggested they would be. http://www.wdbj7.com/ I can see shades of the Hearst layout in this, and that's probably not a coincidence. The header bar isn't pushed to one side like the Hearst layout (and that's good in my opinion), but the social icons do seem a bit tacky.
