Recommended Posts

CHICAGO and GERMANTOWN, Md., May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- WGN-TV announced today that the station will partner with WeatherBug®, the leading provider of live, local weather information services to offer viewers live streaming weather information from area schools and downtown locations on WGN Morning News, WGN News at Noon, the 5:55pm Forecast and WGN News at Nine. WGN Chief Meteorologist Tom Skilling will launch WeatherBug tomorrow night on WGN News at Nine. Weather anchor Paul Konrad will debut the system on top-rated WGN Morning News on Wednesday, May 23.

Now that makes the 2nd CW station with WeatherBug(the 1st being WPIX) Are all Tribune owned stations with news going to have WeatherBug?

The reason WGN is doing this is, because WFLD is moving in on their turf. Weather in Chicago has always been WGN's department. But now that Fox is really starting to invest in the weather department at WFLD (i.e. Power Doppler and WeatherWatch). The folks at WGN are probably feeling a little threatened, and want to ensure their position as Chicago's Weather Station. I find it real funny too, that WGN's new weather toy is being rolled out two-weeks after WFLD rolled out "Power Doppler"

No. Here in the New Orleans market, WWL has WeatherBug, so WGNO can't do it.

I thought WMAQ-NBC 5 had the weather bug as well. They just call it their Weather Plus Network. "Real time information in the neighborhods" They use to show the video of the locations like WGN is now doing. But they now just show the current conditions at the sites. Since Weather Plus they use to have a website with weatherbug but they don't have that anymore. Are they still affiliated with weatherbug?
