WXmanTim 88 Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 The LA Times reports that about 175 positions are being eliminated at the Disney/ABC Television Group. Mostly at the O&O level in addition to technical operations cuts at the network and cable channels. I imagine these cuts are in response to the change-over to automated systems at the O&Os. KTRK here in Houston transitioned during the fall of 2011.
CircleSeven 1960 Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 To me, I'm not all that shock. I'm surprised ABC has held off this long without conducting big layoffs, while NBC & CBS have eliminated positions within the last decade. It's sad for the folks who will be getting the pink slips. Hope they can find new positions from different firms in the future.
Thundershock MN 169 Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Little late to the party. But, I wonder if this is a precursor to ABC finally hubbing all their stations MC ops at KFSN. They seem to be (or, have been) laying the groundwork with the quasi-hub set up there now and the automated systems being rolled out to the O&O's.
CircleSeven 1960 Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 ABC is releasing Sacramento Bureau reporter Nannette Miranda, as they're planning to close down the bureau by October.
jero23 105 Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Hopefully, KXTV will hire her as one of their full-time staffers considering...
