Big Country News 435
Shepard Smith announced tonight that Studio 12-H would be getting updated again. This time, however, the main fixture and focal point of the massive studio will be gone. The Cube, as Shep and staff call it, is "Dying" and will be removed from the 5 year old studio. According to staff, the cube has been a mess to work with, but worked in the end. I loved that cube, even through the gutting of the studio, and will miss it. Let's take a look back at the cube and the studio designs it has lived through. The Set was designed by Clickspring before the 2008 presidential election, and here's a look at the original design. The Studio was updated in 2012 and the whole room was gutted, leaving only the cube to stand. Weeters 1931
I really loved the environment of the original design but in reality it was an awful television set. There was way too much going on and I think it was probably a nightmare to work with. Though without the cube, that's going to be a pretty boring set. Hopefully the "updates" replace some of the rather boring monitor banks with something a little more exciting. Big Country News 435
FOX Report Weekend was in Studio D tonight. If this persists, there will be only a few programs not in that studio. Jterry 43
Looks like speculation that Fox Report would be cancelled to make way for Megyn Kelly's move to primetime has been confirmed http://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/tv/foxs-smith-to-lead-breaking-news-team-with-more-up-to-date-reports/2013/09/12/0206cef6-1bd7-11e3-80ac-96205cacb45a_story.html http://www.mediaite.com/tv/foxs-shepard-smith-to-lead-breaking-news-division-with-new-show-managing-editor-role/ Shepard Smith will continue to host a show at 3 PM, soon to be renamed "Shepard Smith Reporting". Perhaps more newsworthy, he has been named to a position as managing editor of a newly formed breaking news division, and will be in charge of/anchor break-ins and special reports to regular FNC programs. Looks like they're building a new set for this show, which explains what's going on in 12-H. I like the idea they have going here. No more Bill O'Reilly hosting breaking news coverage. No more Bill O'Reilly hosting breaking news coverage. We can certainly hope. I would bet all the criticism that got during the Boston manhunt (especially when they decided to simulcast to the network in primetime) got them rethinking that idea. Big Country News 435
This new format will undoubtedly help the urgent feel of news, with the hope that random non-urgent 'FOX News ALERTS' will be stopped. Shepard is one of the greats when it comes to news on TV, and this will go smoothly. As for 'The FOX News Deck'... Wow, sounds Sci-Fi. I think that utilizing the news resources that FOX has and putting them in the right hands will make FNC and FOX breaking news coverage more reliable. Geoffrey 865
The "Fox News Deck" debuted today. Here's Shepard Smith doing a tour: http://video.foxnews.com/v/2725988842001/shepard-smith-tours-the-fox-news-deck/ "Shepard Smith Reporting" is debuting now. The set reminds me of a bridge of a starship. It's much more of a sterile/white look than the usual colorful Fox News sets. We get to watch people behind Shep working on large touchscreen monitors (they appear to use Windows 8). New lower-thirds aren't in all caps! I can't tell if this is a huge gimmick or really a new way to present the news. I've heard or read nothing that really gives any specifics regarding the differences in newsgathering. Oh, and it looks like they gave Shep a Wii remote. C Block 1566
That's the most gimmicky thing I've ever seen. "Journalists" need 40-inch touchscreen tablets designed to look like iPads to do the news? I half-wonder whether they'll have to hire paid actors to sit in the studio. PTVNews 194
I would guess that most of the "information specialists" are in the studio "monitoring" for new info only when broadcasting live, and that at all other times, they would be at traditional desk elsewhere. Because look, they hardly have any desk space to work on. I even saw one women's purse on the ground next to her workstation. Rusty Muck 4379
Since when did Liberace start designing news sets? And since people keep equating this design to Star Trek...
