WFSB Knocked off the Air

A flood at WFSB in Hartford knocked the station off the air around 3p.m. Friday afternoon. The flood forced power to be shut off at the station. The pipe actually burst next door but sent about 600 gallons of water a minute into the station's basement, where equipment is stored, including live trucks and camera equipment.

WFSB broadcast 10 minute news updates during their regular news time slots taped at Connecticut Public Television and covered with Oprah and Doctor Phil early on. Also affected was sister station WSHM. Video and audio have been cutting on and off on both stations all night as they run everything from their transmitter site in Avon, CT. Both stations had to tape newscasts to make it to air this evening, and it's unknown when the power will be back on and everybody will be able to return to Constitution Plaza.

The ironic part is that WFSB moves into a brand new facility at the beginning of July, but not enough was complete to allow them to temporarily broadcast from the new digs yet.
