What affiliates across the country represents their networks well?

No matter what decade, market, network, parent owner, or dial position -- what affiliates in the United States have represented their parent affiliate well concerning image and programming quality?

For instance, I have always believed that WTVF(Channel 5, Nashville) has represented CBS very well. Even so with KFVS (Channel 12, CBS) in Cape Girardeau.

What about affiliates in areas you have been in the past, over the years, or the region where you reside now?

There was a time when KFVS 12 would stay current with updated graphics; the station (at the time) had powerhouse programing. The general manager stated that the reason for not changing the graphics as often is that "viewers wanted consistency".

Currie knows KFVS's stuff. But WRAL and WCSC does represent CBS in my opinon. Yes, the viewers wanted consistency. But we have had our same graphics for 7-8 years now. Isnt it time for change? It stinks though because now raycom mandates all their stations should use Gari music packages. They had powerhouse programming, but it all went to WPSD. To replace that, we got Ellen and Everybody Loves Raymond. But Ellen is one of the highest-rated shows around here. WCSC carrys Raymond too in Early Fringe. Maybe if it works for WCSC, it could for KFVS. But most likely, everyone goes to WPSD and watches Wheel Of Fortune.

I think WRAL has represented and does represent CBS very well. I think the "5" logo could work for an ABC channel 5, though the WRAL call letters in the logo indicates CBS. WRAL has a good news division.

WCSC...um, you got me on that one. LOL. Back to KFVS...arent the using WMC's old L3s now? And speaking of Frank Gari news packages...there isn't a package that could work for Heartland News at this time. Not without it further diluting KFVS' CBS/Mid-westerny presence. You think "Newschannel" would work?

I think they are. When did WMC stop using them? I know they are using something different now, but still of along the lines of their current graphics. I am going to the NMSA and listen to every package Gari has, and I will tell you which would suit them the best, while keeping the midwesterny feel. I have no clue why I mentioned WCSC, I just like them. ;D

I don't either, but I think WCSC has a better presentation with their new graphics package...although, it does look cheap.

After looking it over, there was only one package that could suit them. The all mid-westerny Gari package that is returning in TV sets across America. That package is Hello News. I could see KFVS using the updates to Hello News, used on KGAN now. Of course, we have better ownership than they do.

Oh God!!!! NOT HELLO NEWS AGAIN!!! I figured you would say that. I looked at SouthernMediaNewsArchives as well...and that is the only package that would suit KFVS at this point in time. Keep in mind, KFVS 12 used the original "Hello News" package in the 80s and then used the updated "Hello News" package in the mid-to-late 90s. For them to use it for a third time would be too much like KWQC TV 6 in Davenport-Moline. ;D

Im sad to say thats the only one I know that can do them well. The NMSA doesnt believe me they used hello in the 90's. One day they will know. But I will check out if they didnt have to use a gari package. If they could use something else BESIDES Gari.

I am looking at 615 right now, and the one i see the most activity is In-Sink (Peice of crap) and News One. But do not worry, there is sure to be something else to suit them. Maybe Seize the Day.

Yuk...Jbrothers. None of those news packages will do the job for KFVS 12. The station is not an ABC affiliate.

Oh, they arent. I was just looking to see where those packages were used the most, not affiliation. Well, 615 isnt for KFVS, unless you got something well that can fit with them.

Jbrothers...I didnt get a chance to listen to every news package on NMSA. However, I can tell you that cuts from 615 Music's "USA News" package, Frank Gari's "This Is Your News" package (used by CBS sister station to the North, KMOV 4 St. Louis), and KIRO 1993 News Theme (minus the Northwest dramatic "Pocahantas" type thing) would work for KFVS 12. Even Lattitude Music's "News Now" package (variation of the 1993 KIRO news theme) could work Channel 12.

Other than that it is back to the updated cuts of the "Great News" package.

Off the subject a little more, do you think the "So good to turn to" package would still work for WMC-TV 5 in this era? LOL

So Good To Turn To would work, if its Only for a late night newscast. I don't think it would work for a daytime newscast. But it would certainly wouldn't work for WMC-TV. Now an update from the Turn To News package would work perfectly for Channel 5 over there.

Wasn't WRAL used as a national CBS feed at one time?

Yes. Since they were the first (and for quite a while the only) CBS affiliate broadcasting in HD, their feed was available nationwide, beginning in the mid 90s.

WMC used to be one of the top NBC affiliates during the 70s and 80s, right behind KDSK. They represented the network very well, even during the dismal "NB See Us" and "Proud As A Peacock" years. In the mid 80s, they even used The Mission along with Turn To News (when I was little, this caused me to think that NBC Nightly News and Action News 5 originated from the same place; I though Tom Brokaw and Mason Granger both worked at Channel 5!)

A word on the lower thirds at KFVS in Cape Girardeau: Channel 12 is a Raycom station, just as WMC is. Besides owning stations in large markets, they also own quite a few in "below 100" markets, Cape being one of them. These smaller stations don't have in-house animation or graphics people, so Raycom created a generic graphics package of opens and animations for these stations. The design for the L3s is based on what WMC used in the late 90s.

Wow.

Lately, some of the non O&O's of ABC in top markets have been successfully aligning themself with the standardization trends of ABC O&O's, such as circle logos, and EWN NG...would that be considered representing their networks well?

Agreed. WMC-TV was powerhouse growing up in the Mid-South, sign-on to sign-off. But that is gone too, just like KSDK and KFVS (even though KFVS is still somewhat strong in the Heartland region).

Why come it would work for WMC-TV, if only at night? The main cut sounds like Memphis, it just needs to be updated.
