Phillyhere 11
Wondering why the early morning news--and now the Saturday evening news--are broadcasting from the Satellite Control Room? New set? Or, another set-tweaking? Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13375-kyw-broadcasting-from-satcenter/ Share on other sites
Phillyhere 11
Ahhh, just found out it's only "resurfacing studio floors"... Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13375-kyw-broadcasting-from-satcenter/#findComment-99859 Share on other sites
ABC 7 Denver 1715
Ahhh, just found out it's only "resurfacing studio floors"... Sh*theads at KUSA said that they were getting a new set last year (their current one is from 2004), but it only turned out that it was a floor resurfacing. :bang: Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13375-kyw-broadcasting-from-satcenter/#findComment-99862 Share on other sites
TennTV1983 804
Ahhh, just found out it's only "resurfacing studio floors"... It needed a resurfacing. When they updated the current set a couple of years ago (replacing all the wood with duratrans), they left the floor as is. Bars-n-tone 39
That floor was messed up before it originally went on the air. It was scuffed up while the set was being built in 2007 and never got better. Jess 1115
Not as bad as WTXF over a decade ago. They shoved a desk into their tiny newsroom area and announced they were getting a brand new studio. Two days later, same studio, different lighting, and they replaced the daytime duratrans used for Good Day with an ugly, generic blue "FOX" duratrans. Probably just needed what KYW was/is getting - reworking the studio floors. ProButtonPusher 230
Robotic cameras have a way of tearing up a floor. They probably had to put down new target squares and such, so the cameras probably weren't "usable" either. Bars-n-tone 39
KYW uses Cambotic pedestals for news which are actually rather easy on the floors. They only leave behind some rubber tire marks, which you could always see in wide shots as the big circles in the floor. A real pain to buff out but they weren't damaging the floor, which had some deep scratches from other things. Now, the older Vinten pedestals used at 5th & Market, and now living with "Talk Philly" in Studio B, are heavy as hell and those things would actually carve divots into the floor. The wheels would spin a little before getting traction. Add that up over a few years.... ProButtonPusher 230
I stand corrected. I'm used to the Vinten/Radamec pedestals (SP-2000/X-Y Model) that could do quite some damage. And if they "ran away" from you when put into Local mode...they could become very dangerous heavy robots (hence the giant STOP buttons) Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13375-kyw-broadcasting-from-satcenter/#findComment-99895 Share on other sites
Bars-n-tone 39
Oh yes. That model is exactly what I am referring to. They can be beasts when they get a mind of their own.
