tyrannical bastard 3951
I know it's been covered in the "out and about" thread, but WFLA is starting to post new pictures of their new set under construction. http://www.wfla.com/story/25119371/news-channel-8s-set-teardown-and-rebuild I'd post something about WCBD as well, but there's no visual evidence of their new set yet, other than them broadcasting from their newsroom. TennTV1983 804
What's with the two large chroma walls? Is WFLA going part virtual set or something? Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13498-wfla-getting-a-new-set/#findComment-102851 Share on other sites
ChesapeakeTV 311
Could be for stand-up shots. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13498-wfla-getting-a-new-set/#findComment-102853 Share on other sites
DirtyHarry 727
Someone mentioned that the WKRG set isn't being done by FX. Are they doing things in house, like WJAR did, or did they hire a set designer? Is the new WFLA set from FX? The pictures that are up are showing a silver color scheme like WCMH, but so far the WFLA set seems more curvy. Could it be a clone of the WCCO/WBNS set they are putting in there, or is that just a set for CBS affiliates? Weeters 1916
Oh wow, that spiral staircase is actually functional. What's with the two large chroma walls? Is WFLA going part virtual set or something? That's not exactly two large chroma walls, it's one large "infinity" cyc with a panel removed. The same type used on virtual sets. I'm guessing FX convinced them to go partially virtual. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13498-wfla-getting-a-new-set/#findComment-102879 Share on other sites
tyrannical bastard 3951
UPDATE: More new pictures have been posted to WFLA's site. http://www.wfla.com/story/25119371/news-channel-8s-set-teardown-and-rebuild It's starting to look very similar to what's going on over at WSPA in Spartanburg....the desks look identical so far.... http://www.wspa.com/story/25192960/the-new-look-of-local-news Here's WCMH to compare it to.....these two sets are going in a different direction from what they got last year... http://www.nbc4i.com/story/23729326/nbc4-countdown-to-launch-of-new-look Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13498-wfla-getting-a-new-set/#findComment-103132 Share on other sites
A3N 1002
If this is an FX job, I wonder if they plan on covering those green walls with a frosted plexiglass wall. FX did KSWB's set and behind they anchor desk they have a frosted plexiglass wall covering up a green screen. They usually show some kind of blue graphics animation, but during Superbowl Sunday, they actually keyed in a Superbowl graphic. The only reason I was able to tell there was a green screen behind there was because the green reflected off the black floor. It's a cheap way to have that skyline look without having to invest in monitors or a projector. Just as long as they get rid of the tacky glass blocks in the staircase area... tyrannical bastard 3951
https://twitter.com/WCBD This is the finished product of WCBD, which unlike WSPA, WKRG and WFLA, kept their set reconstruction under wraps and didn't post the blow-by-blow on social media. I think WSPA is going to be a carbon copy....I'm hoping WFLA has a one-up since they are larger market and have a unique look and feel to them. I hope so considering WFLA's studio is massive compared to the others. Isn't it like three stories high or something? TennTV1983 804
Their new set officially debuted today: http://www.wfla.com/slideshow?widgetid=108905&slideshowimageid=33 PR Web story: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2014/04/prweb11794431.htm The graphics are unchanged, but the set looks much better than the generic clones WSPA and WCBD received. 10Viewer 334
The set was a needed upgrade. But I still think WTSP has the best looking set in the market. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13498-wfla-getting-a-new-set/#findComment-103947 Share on other sites
sanewsguy 511
It's OK. Considering how large their studio is, it seems like they're not taking full advantage of it. I guess they wanted to do it on the cheap... Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13498-wfla-getting-a-new-set/#findComment-103955 Share on other sites
tyrannical bastard 3951
They make the best use out of the set out of the 3 stations that got it. As much as I hate their graphics, it allows for a more diverse color palette than what WSPA and WCBD uses.
