Raycom acquires Drewry for $160 million

Raycom Media announced today that it is buying Drewry Communications for $160 million. The deal has been mentioned a couple of times on here.

The acquisition will include KXXV, KFDA + KEYU, KWES and KSWO. Additionally, American Spirit Media will ultimately buy KAUZ from Hoak Media, marking that company's end; a new SSA will replace the existing JSA between KAUZ and KSWO.

The sale will also mark the end of nearly 75 years in broadcasting for Drewry, which began operating KSWO AM in Lawton, Oklahoma, in 1941 and built the TV station there in 1953.

As far as The KSWO/KAUZ deal is concerned, why do I get this feeling the viewers will have "Wichita Falls News Now" as the new name of the combined newscasts...but I applaud Raycom on this!!

KSWO and KAUZ continue to maintain separate studios. KSWO rules the Oklahoma side of the market (Drewry was based in Lawton the whole time) and KAUZ competes with KFDX for viewers in Texas.

Pretty good purchase on Raycom's front. The only thing that might hold the deal up is KAUZ still being in an SSA with KSWO. If anyone knows, is KAUZ in an SSA only or in a JSA/SSA situation?

A JSA/SSA is being replaced with an SSA.
