KGTV (ABC-10 San Diego) reporter Marie Coronel and her photographer were injured this morning (2/1) by a falling tree. The San Diego area was hard hit by rain and very strong winds over the last 30 hours. They are both in local hospitals but no other information has been reported on their condition.

Maybe KGTV can set up a Go Fund Me page.

Why was the reporter under the tree when KGTV had already "triggered" a "Breaking Weather Alert" on Saturday?

She should have listened to her own advice to stay away from trees...especially reporter hating trees.

The photographer is Mike Gold. They had just completed a "live" report sometime around 4:30am when the tree fell on them. Mike was able to call 911 on his cell phone. As reported above it was reported that Mike had a broken left leg and was in surgery at Scripps about an hour ago. Marie's injuries were not stated but she too was being prepped for surgery also at Scripps.

Looks like she had been doing an "active" liveshot under a portion of the tree that had already fallen. Both were trapped when the rest of the tree fell.

Attorney: "Why were you working under the tree, in a wind storm?"

Marie: "Because my boss told me to."

See ya in court.

Mike Gold has been released and is recovering at home.

Marie underwent surgery (6 hrs?) on Thursday at Scripps Memorial Hospital. According to her neurosurgeon, “Bones were fractured from the top of the spine to the mid-back; the surgery was to stabilize and prevent further injury,”
