TheRolyPoly 2556 Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 KYW 1060 would always rely on an outside company, but as of two months ago to this date, not anymore. All traffic reports are now done in-house. http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2017/04/01/its-a-new-era-big-change-for-kyw-newsradio-traffic/ Most stations are going outside for traffic reports but KYW 1060 is reversing course on this one.
Weeters 1969 Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 It's part of this deal that everyone was panicking over: https://forums.tvnewstalk.net/index.php?threads/cbs-radio-national-traffic.15745/ This went into effect at all CBS stations a few weeks ago (I guess April 1st based on that article date)
NewsWebsite 0 Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 Good move. Its better to have something in-house than a third-party source giving us content
NYPhillynews 103 Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 I wonder if KYW will add traffic reports from a pilot in a News Chopper during rush hours similar to what KNX, WBBM, WCBS, KRLD, KCBS etc does? Giving a real time/birds eye perspective to the traffic reports.

The highway system is nowhere near as extensive and most of the highways are covered quite fine by state camera feeds.

The highway system is nowhere near as extensive and most of the highways are covered quite fine by state camera feeds. The real reason KYW now produces those reports in-house has NOTHING to do with being locally produced. It's axctually about returning inventory to CBS. Traffic reports are typicaly traded for spot inventory with the traffic service selling the spots....and the station getting "free" reports. KYW is just moving that inventory back to them... And as Hulkie points out the roads are now very well covered with sensors, CAD, cameras, etc. One person can now produce accurate local traffic reports without airplanes or mobile spotters in most locals. But it's really about the spots, and returning that inventory back to KYW.
