Early To Higher Ground

CBS' The Early Show has moved to higher ground, a few blocks away from their normal set in the GM building on 5th Ave. Hannah Storm announced "we've switched locations this morning, because of the rain" overnight, "we come to you this morning from studio 47."

An emailer writes, the studio and control room in the GM building are flooded. "There was water just pouring out of the ceiling, onto people's desks," Storm said at the 8am open.

>Wonder what that means for the Apple store, which is in front of the GM building, and underground?

Fox News Flooded, Too

An emailer writes "The NYC headquarters of Fox News is completely flooded. There's a tarp hanging from the newsroom ceiling and vacuums trying to dry up the soaked rugs. Quite a mess!" FNC's newsroom is in an below-street level area of the News Corp. building on 6th Ave.

>Update: "A FOX executive explained that there's only a minor leak in the newsroom with a tarp covering a small area. No shows have been moved, no studios or control rooms were affected and newsroom personnel were not even displaced. The leak is the result of an abundant amount of water, which came in through the front door and made its way downstairs through the elevator shaft. However, that's the extent.. nothing is wrong with the floors and the carpet is intact, just like it had been yesterday. All the shows are being produced as normal from their designated studios/control rooms."

Water, Water, Everywhere....

>Flooding updates from emailers:

"The FNC newsroom does not have 'rugs'. The floor is raised, with extensive cabling below the squares... the question is, how much damage has been done to the below floor cabling?"

"At Time Warner Center - CNN elevators not working due to flooding..."

Fashion Show "On The Set Of Evening News"

Following up on our post this morning, about how the torrential rain displaced CBS' The Early Show. The Early Show team put together a story on the experience, which we've excerpted. They write, 40 minutes before airtime "it began raining inside The Early Show's studio and newsroom. Quick thinking and impeccable execution enabled the staff to move the entire broadcast about a half-mile west to the CBS Broadcast Center on the far west side of mid-town Manhattan."

The anchors, producers, the director, technicians, and guests "all took taxis and cars west, arriving at the Broadcast Center just 20 minutes" before air.

"Six models participating in a fashion show crowded into taxis for the trek west, and New York Knicks All-Star Stephon Marbury, scheduled to talk about his low-price line of basketball shoes, had to change from sweats into a suit in a hallway at the Broadcast Center."

Steve Friedman, VP of Morning Broadcasts "quipped, 'Did you ever think you'd see a fashion show on the set of the CBS Evening News?'

Nightly News Live From Brooklyn, NY

NBC's Ann Curry will anchor NBC Nightly News live from Brooklyn, NY and the aftermath of a violent storm that swept through New York City early this morning (see subway station below). In addition to a report on the situation in NY, NBC tells us Martin Savidge "will report on the heat wave that's gripping much of the nation." Curry is subbing for Brian Williams this week. The early-morning storm affected employees and, in some cases, the broadcasts, at CBS, CNN and FNC.

I wish West Tennessee could have gotten some of that rain; we're in a serious drought and temps are expected to hover near the 100 degree mark all week long.

Tennessee isn't the only place, The Great Indiana State Fair, is in, and last i checked we're suppost to have 90+ days until august 16 at least.
