  1. This is likely the touch screen recycled from the old set.
  2. Build the anchor bench twice as fast and it only takes those journalists out of the reporting mix one day per week as opposed to two.
  3. Count on a legacy NPPA station to make a temp setup look sharp.
  4. In theory I don't hate the idea of an evening version of the Eye Opener, but in execution this was chaotic and cheap looking, IMO. The 2018 version shared above felt better executed than this.
  5. Looks like CBS just got consultant-bombed. This new opening sequence is an absolute disaster. If this is supposed to hook viewers it did the opposite to me. I wanted to turn away
  6. There are a lot of textures happening on this set in general, but this wide shot.. my eyes don't know where to look. I think the plexiglass panels on the desk flanks (which create six vertical lines on either side) are what tips this into too-busy territory. Also seems like they need to re-level their camera. Horizontal lines at the top make it very apparent that the shot is lopsided.
  7. WKRN has been "News 2" or "Nashville's News 2" for decades. WSMV went to "News 4 Nashville" when they were in 3rd place and trying to dig out after firing their star anchor and decided "Channel 4 News" didn't work anymore. What never made sense is why they didn't go to "WSMV-something" immediately. Those are legacy call letters in the market. WSMV 4 News, IMO, is the brand they should have always gone with because it resonates with the audience - old and new.
  8. Branding issues aside, from every clip I've seen so far, what would make KCBS/KCAL unwatchable if I lived in Southern California is every single anchor sounds like they're cold-reading their scripts. It comes off as disjointed, cold, and robotic. When KTLA is a few clicks away, the choice would be obvious for me.
  9. What is this absolute nightmare of a brand? Where are your eyes supposed to look? How much of this mouthful is going to be used on air? "You're watching CBS News Los Angeles This Morning on KCAL." "KCAL CBS News Los Angeles This Morning starts now." WUT.
  10. From a news consumer perspective this is new paint slapped on the same old thing. The debut newscasts lead with live reports from ANF crews in South Carolina and Florida. If you go with a name like "Atlanta News First" I expect local news to be up front - or at least the local perspective. Why send local resources when you have CBS and presumably CNN crews to provide national coverage? If you're going to climb out of last place you can't expect fresh branding on the same product to accomplish anything.
  11. The only time in the last decade+ ratings went up.
  12. Ratings are measured on the quarter hour (:00, :15, :30, :45). If there is a super block of news from :00-:15, they don't really care how many people stick around for the remaining 15 min. They just need butts in seats and eyeballs glued at those critical times. It's also why news starts a minute or so before the top and bottom of the hour, to make sure you are firmly in content and your audience is locked when the meter clicks.
  13. I stand corrected. The umbrella news brand will be "Alaska's News Source" - KTUU's longtime slogan. KTVA's old desk (which never had a logo) has now appeared on KTUU's set replacing the KTUU-branded desk.
  14. KTUU is THE brand for broadcast news in AK, like 80+% of the market. Whatever happens with CBS5/KYES, I would not count on any branding change online or on air for KTUU.
  15. The station is right downtown. There is no room for a helipad. Tune airport was the best option.
  16. The LED platform is gone too.
  17. I noticed this on a KMGH live stream today. *ducks and covers*
  18. Appears to be a mistake or old page. TV listings two weeks out show it still at 4. (http://www.10news.com/entertainment/tv-listings) And Dateline? On ABC? At 3pm? No....
  19. I hate to throw back to a post from two weeks ago, but I don't hang around these parts like I used to... WTVF is the dominant number 1 in the Nashville market. It has won all time slots for more than a year now, and when it didn't completely sweep previously, it was losing by a fraction of a point in one newscast. Upon joining Scripps it jumps in as the #2 station for revenue in the company. Behind only WXYZ. We ain't all 3rd or 4th place stations... #wigsnatch
  20. That was a 3 minute package on a set. I understand it's a small market. But that was a 3 minute package on a set.
  21. I'm strangely alright with it. Yes it is cheesy, but it's very 90's and (those of you who are old enough to remember the early 90's) will recall that the 90's were very cheesy in general.
  22. OK, there are a bunch of stations out there with this graphics package, mine included and it can be done well and not so much... This one is the latter... Really? Using the "Live" bug for when the announcer says "live"? EDIT And an even worse version:
  23. Woooooow... LiveType? Really? That's cheesy in high school productions, much less in something people actually watch (or are expected to watch)
  24. The close feels like a bad trip and/or I'm having a nervous breakdown
  25. They got BriWi to do their VO, that's pretty cool
