Real-Life Chuck Darlings with a BACK-TO-YOU Story

The upcoming sitcom on FOX This Fall - BACK TO YOU: it is a story about Anchorman Chuck Darling (played by Kelsey Grammer, Cheers and Frasier) who had his first go-round in Pittsburgh's WURG; but has come back to the city and its station, and he is reunited with his old co-anchor Kelly Carr (played by Patricia Heaton, Everybody Loves Raymond).

I noticed that there are come real anchors and reporters who share the same life story as Kelsey Grammer's character, here are the anchors I can think of from Denver:

Jim Bennemann: In the late 1980's, he co-anchored the weekend news with Kathy Walsh at what is now CBS-4 KCNC (NBC affiliate at the time); Jim returned to the station in early 2000s, Walsh is still at the station, and Jim co-anchors Monday-Friday with Molly Hughes

Mike Landess: from 1977-1993, he co-anchored with Ed Sardella at what is now NBC-9 KUSA; he left for Atlanta (WXIA), and then he co-anchored at WTTG (KDVR's sister station; and now he is back in the Mile High City, but he's at another station (ABC-7 KMGH).

Here's a female one:

KTRK primary co-anchor Gina Gaston was the morning co-anchor at the station for 7 or 8 years before leaving for MSNBC in 2000. She was there for about a year before returning as 4:00pm co-anchor and later moved up to 6:00 and 10:00 co-anchor when Shara Fryar became ill and eventually left the station.

Former sports director Ted Alexander left WTKR c. 2003, for one of the local radio stations. He recently returned to 'TKR a couple of months ago, now as an assignment reporter.

He's okay, but needs to tone it down. He still uses his lively sportscaster persona for serious stories.

Ted left in 2005... I do agree with you about his reporting style.

Others from around here...

Janet Roach was at WVEC as a reporter in the early-mid 1990s when she left for Milwaukee. She returned to WVEC as morning co-anchor in 2002.

Karen Jones was a WVEC weekend weathercaster in the early-mid 1990s. She's back substituting for Julie Wilcox while she is out on leave, it's not the only time I've seen her fill in... she filled in on New Year's Eve 2005.

LeAnne Rains was a weekend anchor at WAVY from the late 80s until 1993. She returned to Hampton Roads in 1995 as 6 and 11pm co-anchor for WTKR, and left in 2001.

Dennis Woltering worked at WWL from 1977 to 1984, when he left for WCAU in Philadelphia. He returned to WWL in 1994, and is still there today anchoring the 5 and 6 newscasts, as well as host of "Sunday Morning With Dennis Woltering."
