KYTV's new morning anchor Paul Adler is featured in an article in today's Cincinnati Enquirer:

But it wasn't an easy decision. His four daughters (8, 6 and 2) were all born here. His mother's relatives, the Stelzles, settled here from Prussia in 1853. But the move brings him closer to his retired parents, and the family of his wife, Melissa.

Adler's legacy will be establishing the Safe, Secure Place for Newborns in 2000, based on an Alabama program for mothers to drop off unharmed, unwanted newborns (up to three days old) at hospital emergency rooms.

"I was out doing a story about a woman who had given birth and dumped the baby in a trash can, and it hit me very hard. I heard about the Alabama program and said, 'Why can't we do that here?' " Adler said.

Adler was asked to apply for the Springfield job by the news director there, Jeff Benscoter, a former Channel 12 producer who knew Adler's Missouri roots.

"Over the years I had some interest from (stations in) Dallas, Seattle, Phoenix and Philadelphia. But it wasn't the right job or situation for me. I didn't want to move just to move," he said.
