NYNW 0
I've always had a hunch as to what is on the paper scripts. I'm guessing that it has it's a hard copy of the teleprompter, with camera assignments correct? qunewsguy 377
Paper scripts are indeed just copies of the prompter script, usually printed in two colums with anchor cues and cues when video will roll and graphics will come in on the left side and scripts on the right. It includes a story slug, and usually includes a page number that matches a line in the rundown as well for easy reference ("Okay, A7 is next"). What specifics get printed on scripts depend on the newsroom system being used and options selected. Sometimes anchors will mark their scripts with camera shots or words for emphasis. Most stations have floor directors who will give camera cues and the rundown will often include camera cues, but I've known an anchor or two to mark it on their script as well. Plus having something in front of them gives anchors something to doodle on during packages, live shots, and weather and a place to stick their used piece of gum just before going on-air. ;D Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/2138-paper-script/#findComment-20553 Share on other sites
WXmanTim 88
*edit* Dang! Beat me too it! I'll leave it up anyway. It's the exact same script that is in the teleprompter. Without that backup script, there would be no way for an anchor to know what to say if the teleprompter fails. Most of the scripts are in split-column format. Column 1 (the left column) contains camera cues, as well as CG information (lower-thirds), whether its a RDR (reader, a piece of news that contains no video), a VO (voice-over a video), VO/SOT (voice-over news story with a sound on tape, such as an interview) or a PKG (package, a reporter's news story). Column 2 (the right column) contains the anchors script as it appears in the teleprompter as well as the lead-in and out-cues to any SOTs and reporter packages and usually some information regarding the story (aside from the anchor's scripted toss). NYNews 54
Why is this topic in the NY board? Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/2138-paper-script/#findComment-20557 Share on other sites
goinglive 1
For stations that don't have floor managers, anchors will sometimes use the position of the scripts to help them remember which camera each read will be on. For example, all pages that are to be read on the center camera that gets the two shot will face that camera (in other words, straight). Any pages that are to be read on a different camera are skewed at a angle to the others. This gives them a quick visual cue without having to read the camera directions. I've also seen anchors use their scripts to write notes to each other while on the set during commercial breaks that they don't want the crew to hear (since microphones pick up even whispers).
