Channel 2's latest hit

Just when you thought the week couldn't get any worse for Joe Ahern, it did. The ratings-challenged president and general manager of CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2 has been forced to fire his closest confidante.

 

On orders from above, Ahern has eliminated the position of Fran Preston as vice president, station manager and program director. CBS is the latest station group to deem the second-in-command roles expendable.

 

Preston, who spent much of her 24 years at ABC-owned WLS-Channel 7 working with Ahern, was the very first person Ahern hired when he arrived at Channel 2 in 2002.
