Good for them, but I hope they are not doing it because the psychic said so, that was pretty corny. But, it does look like a decent morning news program from what I could see.

...Why does Hawaii need a 3 and a half hour morning news?

Maybe if the news is in more than one language (English / Japanese / Filipino maybe?) but...yikes.

KGMB, the CBS affiliate in Honolulu, is expanding Sunrise on KGMB9 to 3.5 hours starting January 7, 2008. It will run from 4:30am-8:00am. The Early Show will follow it.

Pretty fast considering the newscast just debuted in September.

Uh wow... but I guess those Hawaiians are typically early-risers.

Even in 1995, I couldn't believe that market could support THREE 5am or 5:30am newscasts!! And as you say, KGMB have traditionally not been in the morning market at all.

The open is reminiscent of 7's Sunrise down under.

Just remembered... today marks the one year anniversary of KGMB's morning newscast. It's amazing how well it has done in just a short amount of time (the newscast is a strong #2 and has encroached on KHON's morning ratings the last couple books AND has gone from 2 hours to 3.5 hours).

The new owners (a holding company no less) have put a considerable amount of resources into the show and I guess it's fair to say that it has paid off.

The language of the Philippines is called Tagalog...

Anyway, that aside, it's only a matter of time before you see everyone going to 4:30am with their morning newscasts. 4:30 is the new 5:00!
