Linda Alvarez leaves CBS2

She was great....I remember watching her at KNBC and KCBS. I wonder if she will return to TV news, maybe not, a lot of people are leaving LA TV News now....(Dave Clark, John Beard, Ross Becker, David Cruz, Kelly Mack, and now Linda). Well, I wish her all the best!

As for 2, we'll of course they're going to put someone younger and more attractive, the stations are losing money and viewers to the internet and cable.

Man what a loss for CBS 2. She was a really lovely anchor/reporter. I'll miss her very pronounced "I'm Linda Alvarez"

Her signature, "Hello everyone, I'm Leenda Alvarez." Truly a loss, another veteran leaving the duopoly. So much for the notion that KCBS/KCAL has good management. Good management does not let seasoned veterans leave. I am pretty sure Linda is not leaving to "pursue other oportunities," instead she is probably leaving because she is going to be replaced by a younger hotter blonde chick with big boobs. Maybe Marybeth McDade will take her spot? or Sharon Tay? who knows, but truly shocking that she is leaving after all these years at KCBS.

Sharon Tay did fill in for Linda while she was on vacation a month or so ago. Hmmmm

Anyway I remember Linndaa Alvaareezzz(love how she pronounces her name) back when she was on KNBC also. She is/was the main reason why I watch CBS2 on the weekends. :)

I used to check in on her newscast when I was growing up in LA. She just had a way with delivering the news. She always pronounced her the proper Spanish way.

Anyhow, it is sad that the thought of a well seasoned veteran maybe replaced by eye candy. Not that I do not mind eye candy.....but would one like to see "well, oy my god, we are like here in woodland hills, and like there were two suspects, who like, tried to rob a jewelry store...oh my god!!!"

We have that same problem down here. The veterans a being moved out for the supposed younger generation.

CBS2 is saying goodbye to a quality anchor.

Management can't do anything if she wanted to leave KCBS/KCAL. Throwing more money? Not gonna happen, especially now that they are scrambling to get freelance writers and the fact that they axed Special Assignment to pay Paul & Laura salary.

Did she really want to leave? One may never know unless they ask Linda. Management may not have been able to do anything in regards to Linda's departure, but what about Kerry Kilbride, David Jackson, Paul Dandridge, Dave Clark? These veterans departures were in management's hands. With the exception of Clark, all of them were let go. Clark left on his own accord, and even then he left because he was never given the weeknight anchor job after Kilbride was let go. Who's fault is it that they gave huge contracts to Magers and Diaz? Management. It is not how much they throw out there but rather how they spend their money. If they spend it wisely they will save some money, and perhaps the ratings will rise more. One of few good thingsthat management has done was to hire Paul Magers, he has brought stability to KCBS. Diaz is just another one of those 50 year old women who think that by getting botox injections and boob jobs it will make them look like they are 25. Got to give credit to David Gonzales, as long as his wife is news director, he will always have a job at the duopoly ::o

I do agree with your points above, especially with Laura Diaz. She is old and ugly. KCBS should've left Laura unemployed after Disney dumped her. They should've paired Gretchen Carr with Paul Magers. But as they say money talks, and CBS 2 did grabbed the #1 spot last year, so they had an excuse to pay the $2.5 Million to Paul & Laura. KCBS is just trying to follow KABC's lead. To have good yet not so expensive talent while generating good ratings. I want you to think, if it was KABC instead of KCBS letting their veteran anchors/reporters leave, would you still question the management. I think not. Look at what all CBS stations did around the same era, in the 2002-2003 era. KCBS hired Laura Diaz, dumped by ABC 7 because they weren't willing to pay her the 2 million bucks a year she wanted and since the duopoly was formed, and having Swanson onboard CBS Stations, he didi thought he blowed ABC 7. WBBM hired Diann Burns after WLS dumped her, because they didn't want to pay Diann the 2 million bucks a year she wanted. WCBS in 2003, around the same time, hired Roz Abrams from WABC paying her a 2 million bucks a year. I again ask you, would you critize WABC/KABC/WLS in the same era for letting their veteran reporters go to other stations? And to answer David Gonzales comment, then why didn't Nancy put him as the CBS 2 News 5 & 11 top anchor? Because Nancy doesn't decide who is going to anchor what. She just directs the news department.

If KABC were to pull off anything like KCBS has done (with the veterans being let go), then yes I would criticize them. Why? because they should know better, KABC is number one because they know what they are doing. If they fall under, then the only person/people you can blame is the management. KCBS use to be number one, and look what happened. Bad decisions on managements behalf sunk the ship. In regards to David Gonzales, I read that his wife wanted him to anchor KCAL 9 News at Noon and 2 because she wanted her hubby to be home early, and yes maybe the news director might not have a final say on who anchors a particular newscast, but most News Directors have a great amount of influence on that decision process. I would be willing to bet that Nancy has a big amount of influence in the decisions that Don Corsini makes in regards to the news department.

I wonder if this may be where former WBBM anchor/reporter Alita Guillen steps into the LA TV news scene..

She recently left WBBM and moved to LA due to her husband getting a job out there and I know Alita has been looking to get back into reporting/anchoring in LA. I know she'd be a perfect fit at KCBS..
