5Viewer 1
Well, NewsBlues is reporting that a Tampa Sports Director is out. (I don't know because I don't have a subscription to NewsBlues.) I'm curious to who it is. Chip Carter (I highly doubt it), Justin Allen, Al Keck, or J.P. Peterson? I'm hoping Chris or someone else here would know. jerseyfla 207
I see that JP is expanding his radio show, so I know he's staying in the Bay Area but this is what WFLA does and has been doing, and it's one thing, getting rid of good and even great talent just to save their parent company Media General a few bucks for buying a station in nearly every sub-100 market in the southeast and the four former NBC O&Os last year. And the other thing is having "differences" with their anchors and reporters who aren't kissing management's ass (ala Guyardo, Cate). I just hope "Puppet Neck" Dave Reynolds doesn't get the director job because he sucks. TexasFury 0
How big of a department is it that you need multiple sports directors? Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/2736-tampa-sports-director-out/#findComment-24686 Share on other sites
10Viewer 334
JP Peterson is the sports director at WFLA. The back-up guy is Dave Reynolds. They don't have any other sports people. Reynolds isn't that great. I can't see him becoming the main sports anchor. I know in the Bay Area, sports at all of the local media outlets have taken a huge hit. It's an extremely low priority. I guess that Chip Carter (WTVT) and Al Keck (WFTS) are the best of a generally sorry group. They don't hold a candle to former sports directors like Chris Thomas (WFLA), Andy Hardy (WTVT), Dick Crippen (WTSP/WFLA) or Ken Broo (WTSP).
