WJBF, WBTW receives new Media General graphics

WJBF ABC 6 in Augusta, GA and WBTW CBS 13 in Myrtle Beach/Florence, SC received the new Media General station group graphics last week. It's currently undetermined in my opinion if any other Media General station received the new graphics package. However, WBTW did get a bigger array of new elements to their station, receiving new animated graphics, a bigger WFLA-style studio, and an almost-HD feel. WJBF received the weaker end of the deal in my opinion, receiving a crappy put-together-in-30-minutes open, still graphics, and still broadcasts from their same set. Unless otherwise noted, WJBF could receive more changes coming soon hopefully, and theres always a chance that this is just temporary until Media General launches them in HD...which they could be 1 of the 5 stations that will go HD this year. I can only hope. On the other hand, WBTW who is already all set and ready to go could start broadcasting in High Definition at any time. We will just have to keep our eyes peeled.

I will be posting videos of WJBF to YouTube eventually. Videos of WBTW could also be coming from someone else.

Somebody needs a refresher on the definition of "opinion".

What kind of question is that?

See, contrary to how things work on FTA (like how every station has an HD news op -- even in DMA 287, Quint-Cities/West Bumblefuck -- and every station has a kick ass graphics package and balls set and uses cuts of Impactower V.13)* some real-life stations don't have the equipment needed to run animated L3s or OTS graphics.

*Comments made about FTA are tongue-in-cheek. Settle down.

As Sam said, not every station has the capabilities to have animated graphics. Joey stated in disbelief that the station does not have animated graphics, so I posed that question to him. I don't know what is so hard to understand about that question.

Sam you have to keep it real, you know full well you meant every single word of what you said.

Yes, and no -- a Pack of Seven component alleged to me that FTA has improved, and that what I said would be better suited in describing FTA in the past tense.

So, in the present, my sentiments become tongue-in-cheek.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm guessing that's the case for those stations that are below the top 75-100 markets, unless their facilities have been improved.

actually WJBF does have the capability to do animated graphics, their previous set was fully animated. They must have received the package in a rush.

Different graphics packs have different spec needs.

Their last pack, while animated, could have required much less resources.

And I doubt they "received the package in a rush". They might be getting ready to upgrade systems, or they could be nixing the animations to get better performance out of their current set up.

Just because something's not up to your par doesn't mean it's being half assed.

I mentioned WBTW's new graphics package earlier:

I did get video that I will capture and upload later, here's a handful of caps...

Looks really good. Is that a period at the end of "Coverage You Can Count On" in the middle cap?

Yeah.

They're having a lot of problems with Ignite... I saw numerous glitches.

Ignite is the devil's brother. After a couple months they should have it under control. Until then, have fun watching barely watchable newscasts.

Give 'em time. New graphics take recoding in Ignite. They'll get it straightened out. Just hold on for the ride and turn it into a drinking game for the time being.

The more I see the Media General look the more I like it!
