Jterry 43 Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 And look who reported the story, lol... http://www.wmctv.com/Global/story.asp?S=5892827 The New York Times Company has reportedly agreed to sell it's nine television stations, including WREG in Memphis, to Oak Hill Capital Partners for a total price of $575 million. The transaction is subject to regulartory approval and is expected to close in the first half of 2007.
JimmySand10 0 Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 In laymans terms, don't expect much to change.
FirstNews8 13 Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 WQAD was among those, so im glad to here nothing is going to change.
FirstNews8 13 Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 WQAD announced on the 5:00 news, that all the staff was hired for at least another year, and that they had been sold.
Ntropolis 598 Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 WQAD was among those, so im glad to here nothing is going to change. Opposite here... WTKR will continue to suck. We'll just have to thank our lucky stars they all weren't sold to Gray, Media General, Nexstar, or Montecito.
StormTrack8000 0 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I have been a fan of WQAD for years..and am glad to hear that they also aren't going to change..and get new employees. I kinda wish they would get a new set..but this set will do.
FirstNews8 13 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Yeah, Im also glad, I havnt seen any changes in the format or anything, I think it is good to see WQAD being sold, so they are "not hanging in the clouds".
currie555 0 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 In laymans terms, don't expect much to change. LOL!!!!
Jterry 43 Posted January 5, 2007 Author Posted January 5, 2007 In laymans terms, don't expect much to change. LOL!!!! A good thing for a lot of these stations, a bad thing for a few as Ntropolis noted.
FirstNews8 13 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Does anyone know if they will get a custom music package, I hope not, I love WQADs package- First News by Gari.
Jterry 43 Posted January 5, 2007 Author Posted January 5, 2007 Does anyone know if they will get a custom music package, I hope not, I love WQADs package- First News by Gari. Hard to tell as this company has never owned TV stations before, but chances I imagine are low for such a thing, probably because of that very fact. WREG just changed music a few weeks ago due to the SESAC situation, hopefully they don't have to change again!
FirstNews8 13 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Yeah, good point. I just saw on WQAD NewsChannel 8 at 6:30 that the company admired the service of the stations, and to expect no changes in the newscasts.
TennTV1983 806 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 In laymans terms, don't expect much to change. LOL!!!! My sentiments exactly, though I was absolutely surprised WMC would outright announce this during their 6:00 newscast.
FirstNews8 13 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Yeah, that is a little weird, How did the station say it? Where they a little rude about it, cause that seems a little different that they would do that. WQAD just came out and announced it.

WMC announced it just like it was any other news story, I guess a "Local Business Story", if you will. Very strange indeed. No other stations, not even WREG, unless I missed it, mentioned this...
FirstNews8 13 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 yeah, It just seems a little weird, but if it was like any other story, its not 'rude' i guess.
FirstNews8 13 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 What did they mention was going to happen withe WREG?
mre29 1552 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Huh. I hadn't expected the buyer to be a company that's new to the industry.
FirstNews8 13 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 yeah, Same here, i thought it would be a big company as well.
