Interesting IDs

WKRG uses a vintage ID probably done in the 80s using the old TV5 logo; the logo zips on to the screen comically using Hanna-Barbera-ish sound effects. It looks like it may be cel animation, or possibly early CG. It has been updated with text for digital identification.

As of now, it runs on Saturday mornings and during the E/I block Wednesday mornings on the digital radar sub-channel.

As for kids ID's, it's a clever idea....too bad the programming sucks! Saturday Morning television died sometime back in the 90s, especially when the E/I mandates went into place and networks started putting their programming from sister channels (ABC & Disney; CBS and Nick Jr.)

There are three versions of that same pink television station ID by WKRG:

Shortest version ends with a “pop” sound as the red “TV” letters of the logo turn yellow.

Version ends with a low piano note following the “pop” sound.

Full version ends with the song “The Entertainer” following everything mentioned.

I remember another (cel) animated Saturday morning station ID on TV5 with the pink TV set, but with the “5” in the station logo changing designs as music plays. There was also an announcer saying, “You’re watching WKRG-TV5”.

I feel that, at least on ABC, Saturday Morning TV died in 1997. That's when they started turning into a Disney-produced cartoon farm system. The last nail was when they dumped Bugs Bunny and then made it a Disney Channel farm system.

To me, Saturday morning died PERIOD when the soon-to-be-defunct Kids' WB! started getting an influx of bad anime dubs. It started dying when the "Big Cartoonie Show" got kicked off.

That too, and I remember watching that. I mentioned ABC mostly because I grew up watching that network on Saturday morning.
