Come fall, there will be another expansion of the WXIN News Department as it will be launching a midday newscast starting this fall.

Officials at the Fox affiliate in Indianapolis do not have any details about the newscast, which could potentially be the only local-news program among Indianapolis stations at 11AM. WRTV and WISH carry network programming at that hour, and WTHR runs a talk show.

WXIN currently carries news from 5 to 9 a.m. and at 10 p.m., and will join Evansville's WTVW as the only other Indiana Fox affiliate to have morning, midday, and prime-time newscasts.

The new newscast will feature the station's morning meteorologist Jim O'Brien. However, the new newscast could potentially feature the morning anchors, or move someone from the 10PM newscast .

Watch and stay tuned to INNewsCenter

This can be confirmed by Fox 59's employment listings which say:

"WXIN FOX 59 seeks a News Producer to for its new midday newscast."

Perhaps. Depends on the landscape for midday newscasts in Indy. If it is true that they are alone during the 11am hour, they might have a shot.

It seems like midday newscasts are slowly becoming an afterthought, in some markets. WAPT-Jackson canceled their a couple years ago (after their producer and anchors were taken in by Sascha Baron Cohen as Borat, though I don't know if it was a result of that).

The only station in Nashville producing a midday newscast is WSMV. WKRN canceled theirs several years ago to focus on the 4pm and WTVF moved up "Talk of the Town" in place of theirs. I'm surprised WZTV hasn't attempted it (though they just premiered a 5:00-7:00am morning newscast - as a lead-in to their locally-produced Tennessee Mornings talk show - a few months ago).

well mid-day programming in St Louis sure is not going to the back-burner. 2,4,and 5 all have midday news programs, with 2 and 5 a full hour.
