FirstNews8 13 Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Well, weve seen the worst opens, the worst logos....now i think we should show the worst news operations, including graphics, anchors...etc What is your vote?
newscopter7 233 Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Well, I'd say a good place to start would be with any of the CBS O&Os, not so much those that were former Group W stations.
TennTV1983 807 Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 WKRN-TV in Nashville, or rather, mostly any station operated by Young Broadcasting.
DMA 135 Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 WWOR is pitiful, not in presentation terms, but content wise.
ProButtonPusher 230 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 do any of you care to back up with reasons why these stations are bad? don't just put out call letters....
newsie 11 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 ^Does WTKR really need an explaniation? They're being beat by Judge Judy in the 6PM slot.
PTVNews 196 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Are we calling stations bad just because they have low ratings? Is that what the definition of a bad news station is? One with low ratings? I don't think so.
ProButtonPusher 230 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 ^Does WTKR really need an explaniation? They're being beat by Judge Judy in the 6PM slot. Do you care to explain YOUR THOUGHTS on why you think they're failing? Is it content? What sort of things do you think they're doing wrong?
mbhcity 3 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 In our market....KTLA, such a shame, followed by KTTV/KCOP. And I've been hearing stories about KSWB.
who?cares 255 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 In our market....KTLA, such a shame, followed by KTTV/KCOP. And I've been hearing stories about KSWB. I wouldn't consider KTLA bad, in fact whenever i want SoCal info, i pretty much ALWAYS turn to KTLA. In my market (indy side) i wouldn't say necessarily any of them are Horrible but WXIN is the one i least turn to. Terre Haute side- WTHI believe it or not is the worst, WTWO has really stepped up their game, and has a pretty strong newscast, though they need to ditch Accuweather.
WAVY 10 Fan 233 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Do you care to explain YOUR THOUGHTS on why you think they're failing? Is it content? What sort of things do you think they're doing wrong? Let's see...they can't keep any good on-air talent and seem to want to hang on those who were either never very good and/or are past their prime (I know one example who shall remain nameless). Continuity...forget about it. They've gone through what 3 or 4 news directors and we're about midway through August. If that's not a sign somebody's doing something wrong, I'm not sure what is.
ProButtonPusher 230 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Remember, the quality of a news operation is ALWAYS determined by its graphics package. It's in the TVNT Rulebook. Thank you. One of the rare occasions we agree.
FirstNews8 13 Posted August 10, 2008 Author Posted August 10, 2008 WKRN-TV in Nashville, or rather, mostly any station operated by Young Broadcasting. I can very much agree to that.... Oh, and my vote is KWQC.... (a Young Station) Why?...its all explained in this video here (graphics, music, technology, the set, logo (( look at there news truck)) pretty sad
Ntropolis 599 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Remember, the quality of a news operation is ALWAYS determined by its graphics package. It's in the TVNT Rulebook. It's also an important determining factor on FTA!
channel2 982 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 pretty sad They seem more like a PBS station than a major network affiliate. At least they don't have a news open with singing in it.
ProButtonPusher 230 Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 They seem more like a PBS station than a major network affiliate. in what sense?
DMA 135 Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 That news operation doesn't look horrible. It may look dated, but that doesn't mean it's horrible. WWOR, my example, leads with horribly tabloid stories, and leads with entertainment stories.

If that's not a sign somebody's doing something wrong, I'm not sure what is. ...and, they can't go a segment without shouting that they're the so-called "official home of the Redskins," and the fact that they insert too much happy-talk after every story.
