NewsJunkie247 1 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 WJAC-TV, the NBC affiliate in the Johnstown/Altoona/State College, PA market, has rolled out a new look. They have gotten a brand new set in a brand new studio designed by FX Group. They also got brand new updated graphics in addition to the new studio and set. For a station in DMA 99, everything looks really good and MUCH better than what they had before. You can see pictures of their new studio and set here: http://www.wjactv.com/news/17122940/detail.html
ElliotJones 52 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I'm going to miss their craptastic open and the NINE ELEVEN NEVAR FORGET ribbon on their lower thirds. =(
who?cares 255 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 all i can say is wow, that is not FX-Group's best work, but i guess you get what you pay for.
Ntropolis 599 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I'm going to miss their craptastic open and the NINE ELEVEN NEVAR FORGET ribbon on their lower thirds. =( "IT'S COVERAGE YOU CAN COUNT ON!" The set's alright... it is WJAC. You can't possibly expect some kickass newsplex in Johnstown, PA.
takingaction4you 4 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 This is just a mini version of WPXI's set. That's no suprise; once Cox rolls out something on WPXI it usually filters down to WTOV and WJAC. The set looks nicer than the one it replaces. The old one really looked...well old and dated. For some reason the video couldn't load. Could someone post a screenshot of the graphics to take a look at? Are they still using Total Coverage or did they move onto something else?
NewsJunkie247 1 Posted August 10, 2008 Author Posted August 10, 2008 If you click on the link below and then click on the video on the right side, you can see the new graphics. You can also see their new updated logo. The word "WJAC" replaces "NEWS" on the logo and the logo is also clear. http://www.wjactv.com/news/17145116/detail.html I know this isn't FX Group's best work, but it is still a major improvement from what they had. Their old set was very bland and some nights, it would appear as if the desk was slanted to one side. The new cleaner graphics are also a major improvement from the big bulky ones with the Support Our Troops ribbon on the them.
wnbc4fan 0 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 while it may be a major improvement and cool set for that station/market, its crap from fx
lazynetjunkie 34 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 This is just a mini version of WPXI's set. That's no suprise; once Cox rolls out something on WPXI it usually filters down to WTOV and WJAC. The set originated with WFTV in Orlando.. I wouldn't give FX Group full credit for that set design. It's set design based off the Weather Center set that BDI originally designed for WFTV a few years ago. Then a year or 2 later, WFTV got FX Group to design a whole new HD news set based off their new weather center. Now, COX seems to be rolling that set out to stations wanting a new set. WFTV's news set photos: http://www.fxgroup.tv/portfolio/wftv/ WFTV's weather center set photos: http://www.broadcastdesign.com/BDI/index.html > Hot Designs > Weather Sets > WFTV Orlando
first on fox 18 Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 EW OH GOD. Why base something off one of BDI's less than desirable designs? That WFTV is so ugly.
Mrtraveler01 738 Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 As someone who just visited family that lives east of Pittsburgh, I managed to take a look at WJAC and needless to say, I am not impressed. If you thought the set looked bad, just look at the graphics. I was hoping for at least a knockoff of WPXI's graphics but what they have now is not good. But its a small market station so I guess that is kind of expected.
