Not to hijack the thread, but why are all the Tribune stations dropping "CW" from their branding? More yet, why the talk of The CW going under? Their ratings are better than MNT.

There are still quite a few with the CW branding, e.g. WPIX, KPLR, KIAH, KRCW, WTXX,

It's like putting lipstick on a pig. KDAF becoming "The 33" falls under the file of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". And like I said earlier, it's only a matter of time before ALL Tribune-owned CW affiliates start to drop reference to the CW. CKVU in Vancouver, Canada faced a similar predicament. In the late 1990s they launched their "We have nothing to do with Global" campaign when ditching the Global affiliation.

Don't foget WSFL.

And "TV That Gets U?" Just kill me now.

They're trying to be hip. But its not working on us, because Tribune has gone out of their minds now. What's next? Rebranding WSFL as "Awesome 39"?

I don't think they're "out of their minds", they just want to distance themselves from the failing network.

Good question to ask tho..

IF (and its a big if) the CW goes out of business, what happens to the cable/digital stations like for example here in Lansing/Jackson WLAJ DT 53-2 (Lansing's CW5) do they go off air or what ???

Probably... or go the route of WCTI's old UPN subchannel (ENC-TV).

Wow, that's really retro. Suppose it's okay, but not really creative. I've seen some logos from people who tried to get really creative, took it too far and the logo sucked. The News logo looks like something from the 1970s though. Anyone got vid?

There isn't any video because KDAF hasn't used the new logo on air yet. They still have the old news graphics with the CW logo.

The news team still says "KDAF 33 News."

Will Tribune-owned WNOL in New Orleans be next? While the logo on the website still says New Orleans CW38 - the station is called NOLA 38 about everywhere else.

http://www.nola38.com

KRCW's new site is up too. Their url is portlands32.com. But it has the Portland's CW logo on the header. And so did WSFL's site. Their url is wsfltv.sun-sentinel.com but still have the CW South Florida logo on the header. As you can see both of those sites have the same background.

EDIT: KPLR's website is updated slightly to match the layout of all the other Trib TV websites.

Oh I see, thanks! My mistake.

So far, Tribune's been good about the rebrands, but this logo is terrible. Why is the circle fragmented? Why are they ripping off WSBK? What's with the awful branding?

Because KDAF is Trib's bastard child.

Could be worse - they could've called it "33 America".
