NewsJunkie247 1
The Miami Herald reports that Jade Alexander and Illeana Varela have been let go. Also, "Jim and Jade in the mornings" on WBFS-My 33 has been cancelled as well as the weekend edition of "CBS 4 News on My 33" which was hosted by Illeana Varela. Que 73
I thought CBS stopped with the layoffs? Or was WFOR/WBFS never part of the massive O&O cuts awhile back? rtmclaug 68
It's such a shame to see three popular people let go, isn't it? I always thought Ileana was untouchable, seeing as how she was there so long. I think they should still keep her on and let her anchor on CBS 4. How can they let an Emmy winner go like that? The same with Jade. Even though the ratings of her morning show were in the toilet, I still liked her banter with Jim. She should be re-hired on weekend mornings and do entertainment reporting on weekdays. If not that, she should do radio again. She was good at that. Dr. Sean was such a wealth of knowledge. He knew so much about health and medicine. He'll be missed. All three of these guys will be hard to replace. Hopefully, they'll find work in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale television market, and soon. Of course, we can't forget about the behind-the-scenes staff, either. All those people who have mortgages to pay for and families to feed. I feel so sorry for them. As much as things look bad now, I have faith in God that things will get better. We just have to ride out the storm. I don't think they were part of the mass layoffs. El ojo 0
I don't think they were part of the mass layoffs. Actually they were. Thirteen people were laid off in that first round last spring. El ojo 0
A few additional layoffs today at WFOR/WBFS. One reporter and some sales people now making a grand total of fifteen laid off. Tough times made even tougher seeing good people lose their jobs. Word is other O&O's are involved in the same decision making process as WFOR/WBFS Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/4559-layoffs-and-cuts-at-wfor-cbs-4wbfs-my-33/#findComment-42681 Share on other sites
ib-td 1
speaking of the o/o thing - this of course comes after WCCO spent some $$ creating their 2 street level studios (which I heard from someone at CCO, the western studio leaks!!) ok this is another example of money well spent - yet still no hd and now presumed layoffs Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/4559-layoffs-and-cuts-at-wfor-cbs-4wbfs-my-33/#findComment-42693 Share on other sites

Que 73
Well it could also be that WCCO is making more money than WFOR. If you have more revenue coming in, then you have more money to spend.
