LosAngeles7 0
This is terrible news! She was certainly one of my favorite KNBC personalities. What terrible thing could she have done to the intern that would lead to a forced retirement? It's not often we hear about an intern bringing down veternan reporter. Must be someone's kid. mbhcity 3
This is terrible news! She was certainly one of my favorite KNBC personalities. What terrible thing could she have done to the intern that would lead to a forced retirement? It's not often we hear about an intern bringing down veternan reporter. Must be someone's kid. Sounds a little juicy me thinks...this is quite similar to what happened to Chris Nance, who was fired back in 02 because of an affair with an intern, but obviously different issues here. It's quite sad to hear this, she is a beacon of wisdom, courage and inspiration in the increasingly-vapid Southern California Television News Section, a sector that we have seen falter to the likes of infotainment and to quote Furnell Chatman "Advocacy Journalism." She was a reporter who told it like it was and as it was. I for one do not agree with advocacy journalism, with people telling me what to think or believe in. I want the truth and the story like it is, not like it should be. I nevertheless give KNBC it's credit for holding itself up despite the retirement of Furnell and now retirement (err...firing) of Laurel, but what can one do, the business is changing and sometimes it takes a young, scrawny intern to screw things up. I for one, speaking as an intern and student of the business, would never encourage whatever the hell caused Laurel to blow up, but then again, I know too little about this to say anything. Perhaps Laurel was P.O'd or the intern had some issues, kinda like that one intern at the Twin Cities ABC Affiliate [http://blogs.citypages.com/blotter/2008/11/fired_kstp_inte.php] but what can you do, it happens.
