It's going HD for the first time. It's also the first real episode of Season 20. The first episodes of Season 20 were from last season which is why it's in 4:3 SD. They are also reanimating the intro sequence for HD. King of the Hill's HD intro was cropped from 4:3 which means they didn't reanimate it. It will also be shown letterboxed on the SD feed except for cable, DBS, IPTV, or whatever service you use for PayTV. Those companies simply centercut the HD feed for SD viewers. The analog OTA version will be letterboxed.

What about COPS?

Technically COPS started in March 1989, however that is part of the 1988 television season. Ah gotta love pointless facts about nothing internet message boards. And to add to this I do hope Family Guy and American Dad make the leap to HD, but I'd rather have an R rated theatrical Family Guy movie first.

Or America's Most Wanted?

AMW is 16:9 SD but they have been using HD cameras for a while.

Some pics of the new Title sequence. One of the promos showed Bart writing on the chalkboard saying HDTV is worth every cent. I could see him writing all of my pranks will be in the 4:3 safe area.
