KTLA Receives Star and Award of Excellence

Hollywood Historic Trust Celebrates 60th Anniversary of KTLA With a High Honor

By PR Newswire

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- On January 24, 2007, KTLA will be honored on the occasion of its 60th anniversary by the Hollywood Historic Trust, in recognition of being Southern California's most prolific and historic television station; it was announced today by Hollywood Historic Trust Chairman, Johnny Grant. KTLA is the first television station to receive this honor.

Celebrities from the CW Network, the Clippers and others will join KTLA in the celebration. Two KTLA veterans and previous Walk of Fame Star recipients will also be on hand -- Stan Chambers and Hal Fishman. Chambers' career with KTLA began in 1947, shortly after KTLA became the first commercially-licensed TV station in the western United States. Fishman, a 45-year news veteran, first joined KTLA in 1965, and has anchored the station's award winning "KTLA Prime News" continuously since 1975.

KTLA will broadcast the KTLA Morning Show live from this event (7:00 am - 10:00 am). The public is invited to join KTLA at Hollywood & Highland to celebrate at 9:30 am.

The Award of Excellence is being presented to KTLA in recognition of its significant contributions to the Los Angeles community and the entertainment industry. A Walk of Fame-type star and a commemorative plaque will be unveiled and placed adjacent to the constellation of stars along this iconic sidewalk.

The award will be accepted by Vice President and General Manager Vinnie Malcolm. Four additional members of the KTLA team have already received stars on the Walk of Fame including Klaus Landsberg, Stan Chambers, Hal Fishman and Larry McCormick.

KTLA continues its tradition of firsts by becoming the only major television station to date to receive a star on Hollywood Boulevard, (adjacent to the Walk of Fame). Other historic firsts include:

As do Stan Chambers, Larry McCormick, and Klaus T. Landsberg (the founding father of KTLA).

On a side note, it was believed (and perhaps true) that KTLA actually stood for Klaus T. LAndsberg.

I was watching the morning show, and it was spectacular. In the past, they used to have anniversary specials in primetime. I doubt they will do it this year, but who cares? The anniversary special and star on the walkofame is more than enough of a tribute to this icon.

You may not know this, but I actually visited the station back in January 2003. The staff does a fantastic tour of the station lot. It's a must see for those who want a piece of TV history. Plus you get to see some of favorite personalities at work and then some.
