tyrannical bastard 3958
I witnessed the end of analog broadcasting for WBPG Gulf Shores, WJTC Pensacola & WEIQ Mobile. Not one of these stations did a formal sign-off...they just cut the signal mid-sentence on whatever was on the air. (wouldn't this be a violation of FCC standards?) WBPG was coming back from break on Access Hollywood. WJTC was starting another episode of That 70s Show. WEIQ cut out in the middle of some documentary about 12:15 Central. The station is a part of Alabama Public Television & I imagine they turned off their analog stations one by one in sequence. I wish I could have seen WSRE's sign-off, but their old analog signal didn't even come close to reaching Mobile. johnnya2k6 171
That's just the beginning, though I'm sure there'll be a lot more permanent analog sign-off videos to be all over YouTube after June 12! And just like KWWL (and WNBC radio when they signed off for the final time before relinquishing their 660 frequency to WFAN in 1988), station general managers will have their fingers on the "OFF" button with talent and staff gathering around the transmitter counting down the final seconds before they turn it off for good.
