Broadcasting & Cable reports that more changes will be coming to CBS 2 newscasts. When the GM is quoted as saying that "a dramatic overhaul of news is in the works," You know that more heads will roll and newscasts will be cut. Wonder if this means the implementation of One Man bands? Read more from B&C...http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/295600-News_Overhaul_at_WBBM.php

lew lazare reports about local news ratings in yesterday's chicago suntimes: even through the digital transition, channel 7 stayed on top while channel 5 inched closer, despite the uncertainty surrounding the 10pm anchor chair vacated by both warner saunders and bob sirott. channel 2 is still in the ratings dumpster but inched up to a 4.0 from a 3.6, while channels 9 and 32 were down.

Yawn of an article in Friday's Sun-Times...

Why does it read so much differently than that Broadcasting & Cable piece? There it talks of a complete news "overhaul". And here we get a slow approach, which seems to suggest that what we see now is all we're going to get.

So which one is it? The B & C story had me kind of excited. Lazare's column has me bored to tears. It's been almost a year, are these 'new' guys EVER going to put their stamp on the station? I know fixes don't come fast, but it's as if it's still Ahern's station.

That means moving from DTV3 to DTV11 helped their numbers. One problem out of the way.

I think a steady as they goes policy should go into effect. Ratings have moved up, which means last fall's changes might be having an effect. Let's see where it goes.

As for WLS, what do you expect when you have DTV problems after the transition, layoff a longtime voice of the station, and then cut a popular sports personality? Barr needs to be careful here. She might be potentially skating on thin ice with the viewers.

Silly question.

Viewers notice things. That'd be like you asking "why would the average viewer care about the music?" Change it. You'd get calls. Change the voice over, especially one that had been used for years. Viewers will notice, and call to ask why. Further if, nobody cared, why would the Sun-Times even bother mentioning it. Why did stations mention Chris Clausen's passing last year?

Voice, along with other aspects are important to a station's branding. Viewers here in St. Louis have already noticed the voice change at KMOV. No doubt they have noticed the change at WLS.

The voice-over change is a pretty big thing to the average viewer, I'd say. They went from the classic, powerful, and stable voice of Ron Rolland to the young, new, and edgy voice that Roger Rose has. It's a pretty dramatic change in voice style, IMO.

Channel 2 has a new asst nd, Don DuPree! Looks like that job posting was for real. And good hire if u ask me. With 3 people runnin things now, anxious to see what they do.

They've also posted a reporter/anchor position, so maybe that's for real too. I wonder who/what they have in mind.
