Well, it's only a matter of time before WBRC is no longer #1 Birmingham news station. The fact that they are laying off employees when they suppose to be the biggest money maker of all the news stations says a lot.

I wouldn't be surprised if WBRC comes in last place as Birmingham's news station, much less Alabama's. I guess them's the perils of being a former Fox O&O. WVTM, which used to be #1 during the '80s, could overtake the #1 position as Birmingham's news station once again.

If only ABC 33/40 (WBMA) updated their news product to the 21st century instead of looking like it belongs in a sub-top 50 market ....

The biggest problem with all of Birmingham station's these days is they are too busy catering to the small towns surrounding Birmingham in the DMA over the many major urban area. Most of them want call the market "Central Alabama" over "Birmingham" when they know most of the populous here lives in Greater Birmingham. Also all of them are too busy trying to make Birmingham look like the "bad, big city with too many blacks" which is so damn bizarre.

ABC 33/40 attempted to upgrade themselves with a newer graphics and a better news open, but they still look like a small market station. However, Allbritton needs to be shot for having its 2nd largest station looking like a cheap college-ran product. WVTM isn't any better these days, as a matter of fact they are worse. Media General doesn't care for WVTM at all and it shows with how anemic the news team is.

At the rate, WBRC and WVTM going their new owners will insure that both will be in the bottom of the barrel with their half-assed presentations. It will either be WBMA or bankrupted New Vision-owned WIAT that will be the top stations in the market. I've never seen this market so pathetic as I've seen it currently when it comes to news products.
